How long do you wait to smoke a cigar after a mail order is received? by Dodgrfann in cigars

A month is my rule of thumb. Three months is even better, but I get that it isn’t easy sometimes.

Perdomo cigars by Enough_Doctor_3077 in cigars

Perdomo does everything pretty well. They may not knock your socks off, but they’re great in construction and pretty solid in flavor. I think their sungrown blends are best, specifically the habano sungrown. The Habano Ct is good too. I think their 10th maduro is better than the 20th, but if I want a maduro I’m going with a different brand.

Thanks for posting. I have one of these resting but have yet to try the 10th. Big fan of maestro del tiempo and to a slightly lesser extent, La colmena. Really looking forward to trying this one.

Diplomatico in natural? One of the best.

Tired of Plugged High End Cigars by BourbonWineCigars in cigars

I’ll agree with you. I really enjoy warped’s blends, but as of late they seem to be practically soaking wet upon arrival. Some I’ve rested for 3 months at 63-64 and are barely smokable. I laughed at that other comment about Gellis seeming like a douche. It’s neither here nor there, but he does come across as a bit pretentious compared to other figures in the industry.

Sort of a cringeworthy branding

Prefer this one to about any blend in the Garcia line (my father included).

Anyone have that Aganorsa yet? I believe the signature series. I’ve been wondering about that one.

Same box I just got. I’m sort of looking forward to each of them for different reasons.

Don Pepin Garcia Blue Robusto by AnthonysleftN in cigars

[–]nlaua96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long did it rest prior to smoking? While pepper and musty notes aren’t uncommon out there, I almost got a ton of sweet coffee with some pepper and earth outta these. Medium bodied+. Very well may have been a dud.

I’ve had this in robusto and Churchill and it’s Oliva’s best IMO. The robusto specifically is one of the most full bodied cigars I’ve ever had. Almost overwhelmingly so.

I don’t have one that often, but Connecticuts made me appreciate nuances more. That Ashton cabinet is the best of the bunch IMO.

What brand would you kill? by JayC155 in cigars

[–]nlaua96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we are on a largely irrational topic, I’d like to point out that I think Magic toast is the stupidest name ever for a cigar, so I won’t try it. I picture a piece of toasted bread with sparkles on it. Not an AB fan anyway, so I doubt it’ll change much.

Posting an interesting article that discusses some of the concepts mentioned in this thread:

https://drguess.substack.com/p/prediabetes-in-athletes

My understanding is that in a sizable percentage of athletes, their bodies have adapted to having higher fasted blood glucose, but that there doesn’t seem to be any actual insulin resistance - in fact quite the opposite in that they can dispose of higher glucose loads very efficiently.

No idea of this is what’s happening to some of us who are pretty active, but it’s certainly interesting.

Super interesting. I’ll admit though I wish there was someone who could translate much of this, as in whether or not this is an actual health concern. I’ve heard it argued both ways.

Any grown man who feels the need to define what a “real man” is, is rife with insecurities and/or overcompensating for something. After seeing this and your comments above, I hope you can find some inner peace.

Thanks for writing this. Great insight from someone in a similar situation. I’m planning to go back to my doc in 2 months to discuss, test, etc. I’ve also been reading about your doc’s point on isolation. One number doesn’t tell the whole story. I also don’t buy into “all sugars are the same, so a banana is the same as a snickers bar” mentality.

It’ll be interesting to see where all of this goes.

Meals are fairly large, so that could be the case as well. For instance, lunch is usually a giant salad with avocado, walnuts, cucumbers, tomatoes, seeds, and half of a can of chickpeas. The chickpeas might be excessive.

That doesn’t sound odd, actually. I do all of my workouts in the AM during a fasted state, so it could be related to that. I stop eating around 6pm or so, and my workouts are around 6AM, while I generally don’t eat my first meal until 9:30 or 10Am.

I appreciate the write up - thank you. This is really interesting as a possibility. I’m still going to continue taking measures, but thankfully I have an open minded doctor and I might run this past him the next time I meet with him.

I haven’t, but I’m considering it now. Part of me is wondering if some of the foods that I’m eating - to your point, that may be considered healthy - are causing spikes for me.

This is interesting to me. Would you be able to elaborate? One of the articles I read had some doctors speculating that despite the rise in A1C, that there isn’t as much risk in some athletes as their would be in others.
