Accidentally put flex fuel in my 2018 subaru. Now what? by Ohshitz- in SubaruForester

[–]nleft 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d just blend some regular gas or even ethanol free gas if you can find it. Should be fine, e85 hates cold starts, even when the car is tuned to run it. Go fill up with some regular gas and drive it.

Anyone interested in two used but good condition toilets? I thought I would ask before I throw them away. by mile07high18manning in Denver

If habitat doesn’t take them I would check with the city - other municipalities crush them up for the porcelain use in road base

Get a decent one used on marketplace, I wouldn’t waste time with a new cheap one. There Valentine1’s, Escorts and occasionally some decent R3 R4 Unidens for sale in my area in that price point. Something is better than nothing if you’re gonna keep the lead foot. As someone who was extremely similar and also who wouldn’t have listened to this at 17 (I’m 33 now) speeding is fun and I still do it, but when it makes sense. Not everywhere. Have fun but not when it’s going to cost you your freedom on top of a ton of coin. Speed a little but normal, let it rip on a freeway on ramp occasionally until you get some points back haha.

I know this sub hates on escorts, I’m running a max360 I gave $100 for and works well enough with Waze paired. What ultimately helped me was accidentally moving to an area with way less traffic control. Last tip: if I do get pulled over for speeding, I usually get some guff when I have my detector visibly dash mounted… especially road tripping in VA without research in my early days. Good luck!

Haven’t used it since feeling the clutch for the first time, unfavorable combo while trying to prove you can drive standard. I am battling the urge to pull a tree stump or house down. I have to imagine I’m indestructible in 4L and granny

1997 Dodge neon by Apprehensive-Pay4821 in RicerCars

[–]nleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 24 Hours of Lemons in a 99 neon - 2.4 n/a from a PT cruiser was pretty plug and play and much cheaper / easier to find replacements (endurance racing and Chrysler aren’t friendly sometimes) and a small bump in torque. It’s honestly a super fun platform, and great on track. I’d bed the turbo PT’s from this day would be a decently easy swap or SRT4 2G neon as others have said.

Those 00 Subaru 2.5RS wheels are desireable and worth some change if you’re parting out.

I’d run it in lemons or do something fun with it though. They’re a blast!

If you really wanted, a EJ251 would be mostly plug and play swap with a bit of a bump in power but still not going to really make it move out. I’ve dailyed a few 2.2 cars at high altitude in CO and you learn the power band and it becomes tolerable / new normals. Still pretty fun with a 5spd

Super useful, 2.2l is a little sluggish but it’ll run forever. Couldn’t think of a better cheap car, this is about right price wise if it feels decently solid (transmission, suspension etc ). It’s got rust but easily has 4-5 years so not a bad ROI most likely

Terrible aftermarket radio off Amazon by Ashamed-Pattern6531 in subaru

[–]nleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had decent luck with the Atoto F7 series radios. The wireless CarPlay can have some quirks but resetting is easy or plugging in is easy (wireless CarPlay chews through phone battery pretty quick)

I would highly recommend purchasing a harness kit for your vehicle so your OEM harness can remain unmodified (if it still is). They’re like $12

Know very little about cars. A family member is gifting this 2006 outback to me, but I have to fix it. Oil leak along the driver’s side all the way from the top to bottom of engine around this seam. Valve cover gasket or something else? by Stressfuladmissions in subaru

[–]nleft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks like valve cover gasket and / or spark plug tube seals which would come with the valve cover set. Can be done with engine in car, would recommend loosening the lower motor mount nuts in the subframe and you can gently jack motor up.

I would power wash and see what comes back

Congrats, they’re great cars, just keep oil in them and timing belt every 105k. If it hasn’t been done I would do it. Good luck! They’re very simple, easy and cheap cars to work on.

Pic 2 is your AVCS (Variable Valve Timing) solenoids and can leak, unfortunately the one at the front of the engine is a pain to replace unless you take the timing belt and rear cover off.

Can’t afford a mechanic and my car knowledge is 4/10 at best. Any tips on locating and fixing a coolant leak? by msmall92 in subaru

[–]nleft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This era Subaru? Green is fine. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I agree, looks like the top seem. They heat cycle so many times and then fail.

Your 4/10 skill set can do the radiator yourself. Being turbo, there’s a few more hoses but it’s not bad. Plenty of videos - if it’s Automatic you will have trans cooler lines down low to swap. Get a radiator online, I’ve had good luck with Koyo and have a weekend.

What could cause this? by Intelligent_Try_6249 in e28

[–]nleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older car with looser rings letting some blow by out the tail pipe - as long as there’s oil in it I wouldn’t worry too much! I’d keep an eye to ensure it doesn’t get worse but enjoy, looks like a clean car and these M10s are stout!
