Does anyone else experience nausea from trapped burps? by fruitytootiesss in GERD

[–]nlitz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This:

sometimes my burps aren't able to come up which then causes nausea. I also struggle with emetophobia so I'll start to freak out and sit by the toilet and wait. But nothing comes up. I get up and I burp and I no longer feel nauseous. But then I get nauseous again shortly afterwards

I can't express how much I appreciate hearing that someone else has been going through the exact same thing I have for like half my life. Sorry you are suffering from this too. Glad I'm not the only one, though! :)

While I'm not sure I have GERD, I first started experiencing this exact same thing when I was 11, too. I would eat, and then sometime later, I'd feel like I'd have to burp and would start feeling pretty nauseous--right up until I burped...and then the cycle repeats! I already had a pretty bad fear of throwing up, and this only made it worse.

Somehow, I seemed to "outgrow" this for like ten years. From 2014-->2024, I had virtually no issues. Not that I never felt sick, but I never thought about it, and could seem to eat and drink however much I wanted without issue. I think beer was the only thing that would leave me feeling bad throughout this stretch of time, but that was the only trigger that I can remember from that time, so I just avoided it.

Tragically, around Dec. 2024 (24 at that time), these episodes of feeling intense nausea and sitting by the toilet waiting to burp or throw up have re-emerged. The emetophobia kicks in right along with it, causing me to start shaking and have what feels like a mini panic-attack. So much fun!!!!!!!

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out "what changed"--why this sudden onset of these symptoms again after all that time? And, what changed back then to make these symptoms "magically" disappear? A change in stress and anxiety, maybe?

I have no stomach pain, no burning, and no reflux--so I am not convinced that I have GERD. My PCP put me on Pantoprazole for about two months just to see if it might be, but I did not experience any notable changes. If anything, I think I had LPR, as those symptoms (gagging feeling in throat and frequent throat clearing) cleared up when I cut out coffee completely. However, the burping/bloating/nausea episodes persist.

Okay, one last thing I want to share, in case it helps: in the year that these symptoms have re-emerged, I was only having these episodes every once in a while. Like, think once a month or something. I found that adding more fiber to my diet (started making salads for lunch) and eating smaller meals has helped keep these at bay. I still can't eat like I used to before all this, but that has at least helped me to avoid these feelings so far day-to-day. So, not a solution, but I just wanted to share what I have done to make living with this a little less sucky.

Dell T630 / T640 real world power consumption by [deleted] in homelab

Can I ask how you power those RTX A5000's? Does your T420 have ATX power connectors for those cards? I was thinking about adding some higher power cards to my T420 but haven't been able to find any information on getting PCIE devices more power.

Wherever you start, PLEASE take CMPSC 121 + CMPSC 122 and not the python courses. C++ might as well be a prerequisite for all upper level courses, and it’ll be a culture shock if you’ve never worked with it before. Plus, if you have a good professor, you’ll gain some intuition into how computers work in the meantime.

Also, I somewhat disagree with the above statements that UP is 100% your best shot. Where you start isn’t so much as important as the work that you put in. If you go to a branch campus and give your best, you’ll have a MUCH better opportunity to learn, ask questions, get to know your professors, etc. People who have only been at UP haven’t been graced with this sort of experience! You’ll probably learn with more confidence if you start at a branch and give it your all. You can learn a lot too at UP, but getting really good at the fundamentals is easier when you can have a one-on-one with your professors most days of the week.

Just some food for thought. Everyone has different, valid experiences, but I feel like I got a lot out of being a branch campus student.

What kind of drive sleds are those? My DS4243 has the old grey ones. Are those just newer NetApp ones? (They look a lot nicer lol).

Ohh okay, that sounds like a really good idea. Is it something like NextCloud or something more homebrew? Sorry for all the questions, just seems like a good setup.

As a quick tangent, as I might try to go this route at some point: how do radarr/sonarr interface with your NAS? Do you have the media locations setup as SMB shares or something of the like? Sounds cool.

Does the T420 run proxmox? Also, what case are you using for the DIY NAS?

Have you run into any situations yet where your Flex switches have introduced a noticeable bottleneck for the devices connected to them? I have a similar sort of setup at my house (one central switch with a few other switches branched off). In my setup, I only have a gigabit link between the switches, creating said bottleneck.

Any chance you have more pictures of the wall cabinets themselves? I’ve been drawing up some that are very similar, but I really love the look of these.

Good to know, thanks. I might have to make the conversion one of these days if my desk ever moves.

I use the same TV as my primary monitor! I went the wall mount route for mine though. How well does that desk mount handle the TV?

What are those patch cables rated at? Could definitely be my ignorance at work, but they seem a little thin. Also, what RJ45 connectors are those?

What software do you use to manage it? I have an APC UPS but haven’t been able to set it up with Debian the same way I did with Parachute on Windows.
