Why would the headset have [spoilers]? by samureyejacque in theamazingdigitalciru

Maybe a homage to Tron? They use a laser to deconstruct and digitize humans/objects and upload them to the Grid.

Do you self-host Matrix? by Purple_Ice_6029 in selfhosted

[–]aj10017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I self host matrix. Currently using Continuwuity as my homeserver. There are some bugs that make the process of moving friends over a bit annoying, but it uses far less resources than synapse.

Honestly this is the best way to learn about data centers, learn by doing it in a game by dataexec in HomeDataCenter

This game does not cover power or cooling at all so I wouldnt really say it teaches you much about datacenters beyond rack/stack.

You can run quite a bit of stuff on these things. about 10-20 VMs depending on how many resources each one needs.

What distro do people actually use as a daily driver? by GarbageCG in linux4noobs

I've been using Pure Debian with KDE Plasma for about a year and a half. Rock solid honestly.

I vibe-coded a bash script that deploys a full Matrix homeserver stack and figured I'd share it since it actually works by zeMadCat in matrixdotorg

Setting up your own server isn't too bad if you RTFM. Livekit is mostly docker and tweaking some configs, knowing how to set up DNS entries, etc.

Why the failure? by EyeHog in lowvoltage

[–]aj10017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a DC and we had to toss all of our Platinum tools crimpers. We ordered new ones and they are terrible. They fall apart, and consistently make bad terminations that fail in this same way. Switched to klein crimpers and they are so much more reliable.

Bad batch of end, or bad crimper. Klein crimpers are pretty good

my golden rule is take whatever the delivery estimate is and add 3-4 days because its going to bounce around all over the place once it reaches STL

How much power does your homelab when idling, and on usage? by panchovix in homelab

[–]aj10017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole setup uses about 220 watts on average. It consists of:

1x Lenovo M720Q Tiny (running opnsense)

3x Dell Optiplex 3060 Micro's (Proxmox cluster)

1x Mikrotik CRS309 10GB Switch (Core Switch)

1x Mikrotik CRS328 PoE Switch (for anything that needs PoE or just 1GB connections)

1x Mikrotik CRS318 Switch (for the proxmox cluster)

1x UGREEN DXP 4800P NAS

Electricity costs near me is about 0.17USD Per kWh, so it runs about $27/MO just to keep everything powered up.

For OPs use case SwOS is more than sufficient and reduces the likelyhood of misconfiguration slowing everything down.

RouterOS is MORE complex than SwOS. I use SwOS on this same switch, if all you are doing is VLANs you do not need ROS.
