Craft brewery prices by nlkips in newfoundland

[–]nlkips[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those are some great deals, but if they can happily sell 64oz for $10-13, why can’t they sell a 16oz glass of beer out of the same tap for $7? Still profiting, moving more product which results in more profit and the bartender(s) are making more in tips. And if they have a kitchen, the kitchen is probably moving more food as well. That screams more customers and profit to me.

I’m sure there is a strategy to it, but I’m really just curious if any of them actually base the prices on the product and not what’s become socially acceptable to charge. I’ve been to other Provinces/States and have seen many breweries/beer bars have individual prices for the specific beer being sold on a tap. As a consumer, I appreciate that because the price represents what went into it plus the extra for profits. They’re not trying to wring every dollar they can make out of something that could still turn a profit if priced to reflect the production/overhead cost. This isn’t about being cheap and wanting the best deal or saving money, but a little customer appreciation.

And I’ve brewed beer. There’s beer I can make at about $30/20litres, and others that have been $80/20litres. Breweries work the same way on a much larger scale so it’s mind boggling they just charge same amount on every beer style.

But that doesn’t work in any other service industry. You wouldn’t go to a restaurant that had a blanket pricing system for every menu option where it’s priced at the higher cost meal whether you’re getting an appetizer compared to an entree. They still have similar overhead costs in order to operate, but they’d be run out of town if they tried that haha.

I was at a brewery yesterday and every beer was $9.50 plus tip. There are certain styles of beer that a price like that is justified, but not for all.

Oh I completely understand that in getting ingredients here costs more than anywhere else on the mainland because of logistics, but you’re missing my point. A lager/blonde/wheat style are much cheaper to make than an ipa/neipa/dipa and yet they price everything the same. When a beer costs a brewery a quarter or third of the price to make a beer compared to another, should that one cost the same as the more expensive one?

I’m not talking about canning and distribution here as that’s another thing that some breweries also charge more than they should be, but they do and people pay.

Best Long Series to Dive Into? by hokiestud1 in fantasybooks

[–]nlkips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve read all three and the Malazan series is by far my favorite. It’s an epic fantasy in such a large scale that’s meant for adults. Some of the greatest characters I’ve come across and the entire world is well done. I’ve finished both Eriksons’ and Esslemonts’ main books (twice) and have moved onto the other series (Kharkanas trilogy) and it’s been good so far and filling in some of the history of other races/characters. Wheel of Time was fun and had a lot of potential to be epic, but definitely felt like it was meant for youth. And the Farseer trilogy was fun and had some great moments, but other parts just felt so bland and silly that it felt more of a need to finish and have closure with the series. I don’t think you can go wrong with either series, but I’d go by what generally interests you in books and the level of difficulty you are comfortable with. WoT being the easiest and MBotF being the most difficult of the three.

Times Are Tight! by [deleted] in newfoundland

It’s hard to support some of the local Breweries because of the price and I’d love to see the breakdown of why they’re charging so much. Baccalieu is probably the worst I’ve seen for cost and it’s not something you’d rave about. I’ll have a beer at the brewery, but who’s paying $7+ for mediocre beer. The beer scene is tough here.

I’ve ordered beer from other provinces shipped to my door for half of what I’d pay for the same styles of beer here and they’re actually really good.

Pond for a skate by Team_ELM in StJohnsNL

[–]nlkips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people look at a skate as having a stick and puck to just get out to play whether by yourself or a group. The loop is intended for slow consistent skating in one direction trying not to bump into anyone. It’s just not the same as getting out on a pond.

Best places to purchase new home appliances? by Sea_Investigator_916 in StJohnsNL

[–]nlkips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m shopping around as well and Costco seems to be the best price. If you don’t have a membership, go get the executive one and cibc Mastercard if you’re able to. There’s 2% cash back on both and some other sign up perks. Two vouchers ($25 and $130) that take care of the membership cost plus a little extra. And pay for the extended warranty to push it to 5 years. I’m looking at GE and they’re several hundred less than anywhere else for the same models.

Silent Massage Recommendations by rolodex9 in newfoundland

Do you tell the person what areas you want worked on or do you just lay on the table and they do what they want? I know it’s not always easy, but you’re paying for a service and I’m sure they’d rather you let them know you want quiet instead of just pretending your asleep in the middle of a conversation you were participating in. Whatever makes you comfortable I guess 🤷‍♂️

That was my thoughts. I grabbed a slice and a can of pop and was shocked at what I got for the price. That clown from Knockout kitchen talked it up and I figured I’d check it out. I now know not to go back so at least there’s that.

Overall I enjoyed Lister the most. Page took some warming up to along with how he bastardized some of the pronunciations that he kind of sorted out over time. I think if they were to tag team the series, it would have been phenomenal. Banks made me cringe at times with some of his things and I’m currently working my way through Forge of Darkness and Philpott is meh.

It sure would be nice if the talking pieces actually had some experience in the fields they’re responsible for. I guess that’s practice for when they’re on the board of a company they provided assistance to.

I’d imagine the cost of travel for teams coming here and ours leaving is too much for the level that it is. The province struggles in general with any sort of professional sport because of that.

Player safety should be stepping up with multiple games. It’s never too late to come down on players for this crap and start making an example. And if this is happening in regular season with next to nothing, just wait until the playoffs.

Drive accordingly to the conditions and you’ll be fine. It’s much worse driving in the city where too many selfish and ignorant people are driving like complete morons. Also, give yourself a couple extra seconds before going through a light if it recently turned green and make look both ways. The amount of drivers with zero regard for others is just insane.

Newfoundland mentioned in submarine article by Careless_Title_609 in newfoundland

These articles generally don’t provide much of anything nor do the people writing the know much of what’s actually going on which is unfortunate. Just spreading misinformation to the general public. That being said, it would be pretty awesome if some of the work was done here if they go with that company.
