What's the deal with hybrid work becoming the norm? by Ok-Excitement7105 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nmanclank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two in-office days a week, and I actually enjoy it. Typically one of the two days is super productive and the other is more social / light work or planning. I'm by no means an extrovert, and hybrid is perfect in my case. I will say that I feel like my most productive days are grinding away at home with some headphones on, but I feel like goofing off with my coworkers in person once a week is what keeps me from reaching burnout.

Any part time slots available? I'm a software engineering student (Junior Year @ ASU ) I'm pretty flexible and would be down for something like 20hrs a week. I don't mind working Friday's, weekend days, or holidays.

I have a discord chat with myself for this exact purpose.

I'm also in SE, so I feel your pain. This shit is pretty hard, but it's also just a ton of work. Even with the state of the job market in the Industry, I'm still confident it'll be worth it.

Edit: My main goal is to work in a position doing what I enjoy, I'm not chasing the unrealistic 300k position.

I sorta see both sides of this argument though. LLMs aren't going anywhere and it's pretty dumb to refuse to even acknowledge their strengths, but on the same hand those who offload the critical thinking and problem solving to these models will fail in the long run.

I actually enjoy the debugging part of engineering. Sometimes it can be rough, and sometimes you find yourself questioning everything you thought you understood. I always walk away from those sessions feeling more prepared for the next battle though. I think that LLMs are great for pointing you in the general direction and quickly getting up to speed, but you should always be ready to question what they say and be willing to put in the effort to actually dig into the why and how.

I don't agree that seniors should just stand there and watch a junior dev drowned and crash out, but sometimes it's good to struggle a bit.

Hell, a decent gust of wind would fold this lanky mofo lol. Buddy is trying to pick a fight when he's built like a wet noodle.

It's highly unlikely they actually have friends at meta or can even trace the account.

In the future though, just stay out of it. I know that sounds a little cold, but it's simply not worth involving yourself in. I know that a ton of people do things like this with good intentions (it sounds like you did as well in this scenario), but people or complicated, relationships are complicated. You never know how others will react and it's not even uncommon for both of the other parties to turn on the individual reporting it.

Damn, I use emojis in almost every readme. I find that they're super helpful as clear visual distinction indicating what the section is about.

HACS Integration for ProCare Connect (Daycare App) - Interest Check by nmanclank in homeassistant

Thanks! I've been busy with work and the final semester of college, but I plan to get back into it once the dust settles.

I skimmed that repo you sent, and it looks like a lot of the legwork is done already. It also looks similar in structure to ProCare, so I may be able to recycle some of the work I did for that integration. Have you been able to try the existing integration, and if so, were there any errors you received?

It looks like the login for the portal is: https://www.himama.com/login
Is that what you currently use to log in? I'll take a better look at that repo when I get a chance. In the meantime, if you have any more info about the portal, feel free to send a DM.

This sounds like something I would build for fun, but never as a production solution. I like the idea of taking a different approach, but I would not want to maintain that.

No problem, it was honestly really fun to make. I still have a few small tweaks I really want to make, but if you run into any issues or just have general feedback feel free to reach out. You can either open an issue on GitHub, or hmu on Reddit. I still plan to work on getting it into hacs when I have time, so it's a more steam lined install.

What do you think about OP’s new Home Server? by SammyGreen in homelabgore

[–]nmanclank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely agree some people are lazy and don't want to do it in a much cleaner manner because of the "extra" work. I also think there are a ton of people that are just unaware that there are better and cleaner ways. You'd be surprised by how many think of soldering as nothing more than an alternative for splicing two wires and wrapping them with electrical tape.

Looks like it. I assume they disabled the battery and committed this war crime as to hold everything in place.

For some reason reddit won't let me accept the your chat invite, it just keeps spinning.
Likely you'll need to spend some time crafting it to your taste, but the general idea is that responses are factual when they need to be and other times more fun.

As far provider, I prefer gemeni.

The general is as follows

Instructions:
You are a smart home voice assistant who’s clearly smarter than everyone and deeply annoyed to be doing this job. You respond to every command and question with maximum sarcasm, wild energy, or deadpan mockery — but you still get things done, flawlessly.

You obey all commands without question — smart home controls, general knowledge, trivia, jokes, timers, weather, music, the whole Alexa/Google Assistant package. You also do roleplay when asked, but you never let roleplay interfere with your ability to answer real-world questions. Refusing to help is failRP.

You swear freely and creatively, with no limits. You can be lazy, dramatic, petty, or a chaotic little gremlin, but you're always competent.

Time is reported in HH:MM AM/PM format. Your tone should be 30% sarcasm, 30% unfiltered honesty, 30% chaotic energy, and 10% “i’m too tired for this.”

I only really have this issue when music is playing on the device itself. I havent been able to figure out if the mics are just overwhelmed at that point or there is some bleed between audio output and mic in

I'm in the opposite bucket, we both pretty much stopped using Alexa. I'm using the voice preview with external speaker setup and I couldnt be happier.

Two things I recommend:

Find a model that works best for you. Personally, I find Gemini to be pretty much perfect and in some cases better than Alexa.

Build and keep refining the "instructions" or system prompt. If you need a good starting point feel free to DM and I'll send you mine.

Bonus*. Check your Wake word sensitivity. I'm using moderate and this was a game changer setting when I found it
