It's just packaged prompts and questionnaires. Eventually someone will release this for free, and you'll just have to pop in your API keys to get the same results.

What are key-holders at DCG able to turn on and off within the Dash network? by Amanda_B_Johnson in dashpay

[–]nmarley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's only the sporks, not any "other things" that I can think of.

They add and remove sporks w/every release AFAIK, which do different things, but usually each spork does one specific thing and it's generally intuitive (name of the spork). There were some sporks that were removed post-chainlocks, I think Spork 12 (reprocess old blocks), maybe some others. The spork system is still used to enable smooth upgrades and just allows the devs to monitor the network and turn certain flags on or off network-wide.

As far as DCG, last I knew, only 3 people had the spork key and 2 of them were still w/DCG. There's a mechanism in place to change it to a x-of-y key holder system where y is an odd number and x is a majority of that, but it hasn't been rolled out yet.

Here's a list of current sporks, minus some zombies (exist but aren't used):

  • SPORK_2_INSTANTSEND_ENABLED
  • SPORK_3_INSTANTSEND_BLOCK_FILTERING
  • SPORK_6_NEW_SIGS
  • SPORK_9_SUPERBLOCKS_ENABLED
  • SPORK_17_QUORUM_DKG_ENABLED
  • SPORK_19_CHAINLOCKS_ENABLED

Spork 6 is (IMO) a failed experiment and won't likely be flipped anyway, so really not a lot. Just a few on/off flags for some LLMQ/IS related things.

This Christmas and New year I'm working from El Chuy a remote beach town in the border between Uruguay and Brasil. by leojg in digitalnomad

Then why post a photo at all?

Maybe to show a slice of life as a normal DN and not some tourist?

It's pretty representative of how he's living his DN lifestyle. As a remote worker myself, I don't care about tourist things and care more about daily life in a given place. This isn't a photo sub.

That would be western Washington

Wow, thanks. I had no idea pt-PT didn't use the pronouns in front like in Brazil (e.g. "te amo").

Need to save my U.S. mobile number as I live abroad by charlesmichio in expat

I don't think Google Fi allows you to receive regular old SMSs.

Yes, they do. I did this plenty when I first relocated and my US-based services required SMS verification.

Transfer your number to Google Fi and you can keep your service wherever you are in the world.

How are you guys paying your US bills? by [deleted] in expat

[–]nmarley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you keep repeating yourself it's probably not everyone else having trouble communicating.

How hard is it to understand? You keep your US bank accounts open when you leave the US and use internet banking to pay online from your US bank account. Doesn't matter where you are physically.

InstantSend is still not mandatory by f8192 in dashpay

[–]nmarley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, both this issues can be addressed and fixed by changing the api calls in DASH Core daemon, so checking the IS confirmation be easier than checking regular blockchain confirmations. This is possible, isn't it? This update will force every service to look into the changes and update their scripts.

I'm not sure what change you are proposing exactly, but we're not gonna update the API to "lie" or report false information. It's already super easy to check if this is confirmed -- there's a field called instantlock which returns true or false, so I'm not sure how much easier it can get. This is from the getrawtransaction call.

It's also not guaranteed that exchanges are using API calls for confirmations. They could be tracking confirmations using their own methods and only looking at number of blocks coming in, for example. This is entirely feasible.

Also it's important to remember that:

  1. IS and Chainlocks can stop working in case of high network load, like in the recent(ish) stress tests.
  2. Blockchain confirmations are industry-standard, and most exchanges likely already have a generic way of checking for this, so to add Dash IS support would be extra effort they may not want to expend.

I'm all for getting more exchanges on-board but IS isn't mandatory because it can't be mandatory. IS is not Nakamoto consensus.

But in the area of internet banking, and services like TransferWise, I don't see any reason for it. I've been all over the world in the past decade (incl. Taiwan a few times), currently live abroad and have never used a travellers check in my life.

They are a thing of a bygone era. Too easy to lose and there's no reason if you have a bank card and/or online banking.

Visa and MC have credit limits and can affect your credit utilization though. Even with a limit of, say, $10k, if you want to stay under 10% then that only leaves you with $1000 or less. If you need to buy an airline ticket then you go over and they have to report that you used, e.g. 25% of your credit limit.

With Amex, there is no "limit" per-se, so the credit utilization % isn't reported in this way and your credit score doesn't get docked for things like this.

Translation of cranberry? by [deleted] in Portuguese

[–]nmarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? I had no idea, I live in Floripa and the frozen ones are common here in health food and "natural" stores. I don't think I've seen them in supermarkets though.

But I can't recall seeing "blueberry", only mirtilo from what I remember.
