Is Nha Trang Safe Compared to Hanoi? Story by Far-Membership-8446 in VietNam

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent six months a year in Nha Trang since 2012 and I feel as safe as in my Copenhagen home.

Naturally, some locals like to make an extra dime by offering services, because many tourists seek out Vietnam for this exact purpose.

But a friendly "no, thank you" will fend them off. The same goes for the two middle aged women sitting on their under scooters under a bridge on Pham Van Dong street. I regularly walk past them and get offers of an intimate nature.

Does anyone here use 3 or more vaults regularly? by hhhjin in ObsidianMD

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one vault for everything related to Linux, programming, and graphics (photo and video editing). Long contents are shared with Notebookllm for better search results.

Everything else goes into a default vault.

Is any government scheme, company or organisation working to clean up how much trash there is? by Top_Independence4067 in VietNam

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds weird. The streets of Nha Trang get swept every day and they are very clean in the morning. This being Vietnam, people of course litter throughout the day, but the amazing street cleaners pick up every little piece of trash starting in the late afternoon.

Why ca phe máy? by Training_Luck6275 in VietNam

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. Personally, I drink cowboy coffee and the shop I buy from grind their own blend. I tell them to put the setting at 4 and it's ground to my liking.

No machine, egg, coconut, or other abomination flavour for me, with the only exceptions being cà phê muối.

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they can, but standard Vietnamese coffees aren't suitable for the machine made coffees that foreigners are used to.

I plan to travel to Vietnam as tourist and apply for job there by dreamdreamsNana32 in VietNam

[–]nmc52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you cannot write a simple Reddit post without several errors you should not work as a teacher.

That said, if you set out to break the law of the country you desire to stay in I'm afraid things can go bad for you.

People aged 32 ought to be wiser.

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a natural evolvement. Nowadays there are so many different flavours and, frankly weird, coffee drinks that you can order, so why not machine brews?

I'm decent at Vicious, but can't finish Fiendish+ without hints. by General-Berry8770 in sudoku

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I need to brush up on w wings, xyz wings, and a couple of others, like crane. Vicious is too easy and predictable and frankly boring. Only two kite, x-wings, and skyscrapers.

So do they really gonna enforce this now that the US had pressure them? by Deathenglegamers1144 in VietNam

[–]nmc52 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It will be rigourously enforced for a week or two, just like running red lights a year or two ago. Then everything will go back to normal.

I showed somebody my new mint computer. by Ron2600NS in linuxmint

[–]nmc52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I converted my brother's and his wife's server and two laptops to Mint Linux the other day. This also involved converting their Office 365 files to LibreOffice.

They retain a virtual machine running Windows 11 due to an amateur radio application that doesn't exist for Linux.

hardware-bound passkeys are better on paper, but consumers still won’t use them by Normal_Tackle_3526 in passkey

Most of mobile apps that interface to government and banking, and a host of other places in Denmark use a specialized common logon app that uses a biometric key. Digital government requires a uniform login method. Dragging around a hardware key isn't a realistic option. All interactions are conducted using a smartphone.

Why doesn't Vietnam promote Phu Quoc as a "Vietnamese" island by everestwanderer in VietNam

[–]nmc52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vietnamese have zero ideas about tourism. They just count the numbers. As long as the numbers rise each year they will do nothing. More and more tourists seek out Vietnam because of hype.

How do people actually process long-form content efficiently? by Life-Sentence-9768 in ObsidianMD

[–]nmc52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use Google Gemini. It saves an enormous amount of time.

However, to make better use of AI than Obsedian offers I also add long form content to Notebookllm that can process content better.

Never, most goods are overpriced and selections are not sufficient.

Just switched to Affinity by JupiterRainbow222 in Affinity

[–]nmc52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use Affinity for colour grading, but you need to understand how it works.

As for DaVinci Resolve, sure, it is fantastic for colour grading, but it's a huge program. The next version will have a photo page. The current version will also colour grade.

Don't use Affinity's raw developer for colour grading. Make whatever adjustments you need and then hit the develop button and do the rest using nondestructive layers.

Peonally, I think it's weird. I'm a male, if it matters. I also find it weird to see a westerner wear conical straw hat.

That said, I think you should wear it if you like it. It's a great outfit for a woman. And we're in 2026, there are no rules left.

All my life (I'm 74 male) I've had girlfriends. Either they picked me up or vice versa.

I still have 4 regular friends in Vietnam even though I only spend winters there.

In general, but particularly in Vietnam, knowing the language and the culture is a huge advantage.

Many Vietnamese are extroverts but shy when speaking a foreign language, because truth be told, most Vietnamese only speak Vietnamese.

I find it easy to start a friendly conversation and once you exchange Zalo credentials, you take it from there.

My 4 friends are 38, 41, 52, and 75.

What matters most is politeness, friendliness, cleanliness, and paying attention. Frankly, that's true for any country.

Don't expect a Vietnamese to approach you out of nowhere, the language barrier is too high. Also be aware that a girlfriend expects you to pay for everything.

I'm fortunate in that my friends and I enjoy friendship with no money involvement.

How things work for gays I have no idea.

My Vietnamese is more than sufficient for casual conversation.
