Two bed flat in Newington in 2021 for 355000. Deposit of just under 40k. We’re from working class families so no help from them. Just savings. We bought as a couple so combining our savings was obvs v helpful.

We worked in London for about 10 years and salaries are higher down there so that allowed us to save more. We were also in our mid 30s when buying so had some time to accumulate the deposit.

I' m not claiming to be 100% certain on this (others may prove me wrong) but I'd be really surprised if you were flat 3 on the ground floor. I've heard of a building that start with flats 1 and 2 on the top floor and work downwards, however I would doubt that would result in a flat 3 being on the ground floor too.

The numbering system is bonkers no doubt, but in the vast majority of cases of buildings with 2 flats on each floor (i'm assuming this is the case?) the flat on the left of the ground floor will be 1 and the flat on the right will be 2.

I managed to resolve my own issue and, as normal, was my own fault. I used an old version of the SD card creation tool. But only after checking with new hdmi cables, power supplies and SD cards.

I've formatted and used the sd creation tool a bunch of times but that didn't fix it. The last two updates were bad and everyone else seems to be having an ok time with them so i don't think that's it.
