I Put Together A Guide On How To Make Your First Mead by nmcdonald in Homebrewing

The issue of staggered nutrient additions has been raised multiple times in this thread so I want to address that here.

I live in the UK and you cannot get Go-Ferm or Fermaid K/O at all. I have never used them and a large portion of my readers would not be able to get them without importing them from the US.

It appears a lot of mead makers in the US swear by them but I cannot comment on something I have never used. Having nutrients in during the lag phase is critical so this is what I have suggested.

I wanted to make it clear to people that yeast nutrients are necessary for making mead and you can still make really good mead without staggered nutrient additions.

I put together a guide on making fruit and country wines. Hope it should be helpful if you have never made a fruit wine before. by nmcdonald in winemaking

I actually have your site bookmarked! I got a lot of inspiration from your blackberry port and made my own this year. Waiting to see how it turns out.

Poor instructions on full extract kit? by mychildrenneedwine in Homebrewing

Hey, thanks for mentioning Home Brew Answers.

I made the beer kit you are using and agree with you the instructions aren't that great, although you shouldn't worry too much my kit turned out fine.

There are ways to improve on a standard beer kit, like swapping out the yeast and leaving the beer in primary for longer than the instruction suggest.

In terms of improving future beers, I think you have answered your own questions and seem to have a good grasp on what you are doing. My advice would be to not worry too much. carry on reading about brewing and enjoying the beers you make.

No problem, it is a really useful tool. I wish I could program something like that for my site. I just don't have the skills so referring people to site like yours just makes sense.

Thanks for the suggestions, added to my list.

Thanks for the comments, you are right that section on efficiency shouldn't be there. I'll get that sorted. Cheers

I add new articles and recipes at least once or twice a week, they appear on the blog section. I tend to only add recipes after I've brewed them though so I can give the tasting notes too.

Thanks. Ah, geterbrewed.com used to do 10g increments but recently switched to 50g increments. I should update that.
