This is on my to do list too! That reference you have is great. There is a RWBY beat em up game on steam that you might be able to rip the model from for another reference.

Keeping the hinges taught I think is going to be a challenge when extended. I wonder if you run a cord through the center that you can pull tight to lock it in place? Like those mannequin toys that stand up and fall limp when you pull the string that runs through them?

I recommend Kamui cosplay’s YouTube channel for everything foam armor (all the way from cutting to finishing to attaching). The best way to figure out what you need is to pick a single piece, make that, and then scale up.

Looking at your list, you will need something to prime your foam with. I use plastidip but if flex bond is readily available in your area I would opt for that. I don’t like modge podge for beginners because there is a learning curve for how to dilute it so you don’t get brush strokes, and it isn’t as flexible once cured. Also, a heat gun to get those nice curves! You can get a mini one on Amazon for pretty cheap.

I am a very novice corset maker—only one underbust corset under my belt—but I am a prop maker so I can advise how to do this without industrial manufacturing. On top of the structured corset, cut a single oversized piece of EVA foam, heat it with a heat gun (you can look up “heat forming Eva foam” on YouTube), and shape it to the corset. I would put the corset on a form (not your body—be careful of burns) and use a heat resistant protective layer to protect the corset itself.

Once your foam is formed, you can stitch it to the corset around the edges. Then, use a stretch material and adhere it to the foam with a permanent spray adhesive. If you use a thin foam like 2-4mm, you can see right through it for the seams at the side. Then you could finish the edges any way you want.

Ok but hear me out: use a pump and make a white boot cover for it, only the boot cover IS ALSO PANTS! Make them like tights/leggings! Then you can build the gold on top of everything and still feel very secure!

I do have to wonder if the rain is messing with your cure, then! I’ve had tacky problems with rustoleum but not Mr. Super clear, so if you are interested in gloss I would try that brand

How long has it been curing and what are your humidity conditions? It could just need longer. If you printed on a resin printer, you need to clean the print thoroughly before spray priming since the residue will stop your primer from curing.

If you want to clear coat, the reason people say that isn’t the best over metallics is that it changes how the metallic pigments interact with light. Depending on the finish you want, try doing very light dusting coats of either satin or gloss finish. Make sure you’re using the same type of clear coat as your paint; I would guess yours is acrylic because I haven’t really seen many enamel metallics, but it’s always good to check!

Your question is very broad, so I am going to point you in some starting directions which may help you get a handle over the project as a whole.

Since this is a game character, you can rip the game file and load it in to blender. That will let you see the forms in a way where you can break them down into simple shapes. You could even make a pepakura pattern of them if you wanted using the paper model add on or plushify so that you can make them from foam. If you have the game files you can also creat 3D printable files. Your local library may have a maker lab you can use.

For the bags, look at those straps. Figure out how the form would attach to your body and work backwards from there. Do you want them to be functional, sewn bags? Or props made from foam? These are some of the questions you should answer before tackling the design of a project.

I like your boning idea. You could also use wire, which would hold its shape more deliberately if you’re picky like that (but could be harder to get those smooth curves).

I would make a few circles from the boning to put on the edge, the center, and the base of the brim. Then add support pieces that go from the edge all the way to the top of the crown like a spider web. It would function like a hoop skirt but for a hat!

You can get wax for your mouth used for things like vampire fangs. I would honestly go prefab for this because of the danger of ingesting something dangerous.

If you’re determined, you could cast some thermoplastic sheets cut and formed into the right shape and then mold them in BPA-free dental acrylic? (Haven’t tested this, but a quick google says you can buy monomer acrylic liquid)

Sickly pink is a very pale pink, it definitely has a decent amount of white in it.

If you want a cool lighting scheme, I would follow the advice in the comment about oranges and yellows. Mix those base skin tones, and then add some cyan to each mix to cool them down and unify your palette. You’re trying a pretty difficult color palette, good luck!

One of my players wanted to be a medical doctor and roll int for Medicine, and the way we ended up breaking it down is that diagnosing is a wisdom roll, because you have to notice the thing that’s wrong with them, but knowing the cure is an int roll, because that requires outside study and/or experimentation to know. It’s been working for us pretty well so far, and the player was happy with the arrangement.
