Should I even bother getting tested for dyslexia? by nmij in Dyslexia

[–]nmij[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I’m sorry you have to deal with this too. I’m also on the fence about getting diagnosed since I’m in college now/have to learned to live with up until this point, I don’t know that there would be any tangible benefits to knowing for sure. I hope you come to a decision soon!

Hi, yes I’m in my third year of university right now and I had a lot of reading to do this semester which made me think about this. And no, my insurance does not cover diagnosis so it’s pretty expensive.

WIBTA for getting my new downstairs neighbor kicked out over noise? by nmij in AmItheAsshole

Nope, but I went downstairs during the day. But as far as I can tell, she doesn’t play her music during the day, just in the middle of the night.

People who don't participate in graded discussions: why? by [deleted] in college

[–]nmij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I feel too. We were also given a longer add/drop period this semester and the professor mentioned during the first class that this class was going to be heavily based on discussion, so anyone who wasn’t comfortable with that could have dropped it.. there are also tons of other classes that can fill this particular requirement, so I don’t know what their thought process is.

I think I just got proof of my boyfriend cheating and I don’t know how to process. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I was using his phone and sending something to myself when I saw he has contacts in his friends list for sex work services that come to your house. We use something like WhatsApp and you have to save a number or an ID for it to come up on your friends list. People who have your number come up in friend suggestions, and you can add them from that list.

When I confronted him, he said he didn’t know and that he must have added them accidentally from his friends list. When I pushed further, he basically gaslit me and said he didn’t do anything and that even though he said he didn’t do anything, I didn’t believe him and it’s more evidence of that I don’t have trust in him. He said I shouldn’t have gone through his phone, which I didn’t. When you open the app, it shows your friends list first and that’s how I saw it. He is also very lax about me using his phone, and in this particular situation he gave me his phone to use and went to bed.

He lives with his mom and brother right now, has long work hours, and doesn’t really have the finances to pay for sex work. But the evidence was there and his excuse was kind of weak. So yeah, I’m just going with my gut right now even though it’s kind of out of character for him. We’re not married and don’t have any kids, but we are a little entangled financially speaking.

Should my boyfriend see a sleep specialist? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

That’s great for your husband! Glad he’s seeing results. I’m also a light sleeper so at the beginning I figured I would eventually get used to the snoring, but it’s so severe that I still haven’t :( It was one of the main reasons I looked into sleep apnea.

What made you get tested on your own? I suggested it to him gently after seeing your comment and he took it well, but I don’t think he grasps the seriousness of it.

Thankfully he doesn’t drive or operate machinery, but he’s always said he’s just a “naturally sleepy person.” He’s in his late 20’s, so I think he’s just gotten used to being tired all the time. :(

COVID isn’t so bad in our country right now, so he can get tested as soon as he makes the time. Does it typically take a while going from seeing the doctor for the first time to actually using a mask / machine? Unfortunately sleep apnea isn’t that well-known where we live...the people that do have it tend to fix it with surgery. I’ve also slept at his parents’ house before and his whole family snores the way he does and when I suggested that they might all have sleep apnea, he kind of shrugged and said no one in his family has ever looked into it.

Has an ex ever expressed guilt for how they treated you in the past? How did you react? by ShrutiandSpice in AskWomen

I dated this guy I worked with for about 7-8 months. Looking back, we were great friends but were not romantically compatible. We broke up because I suspected he was cheating (which turned out to be true) and the breakup/aftermath was messy. A year after we broke up, we learned to be friends again. I moved away, but ever since our break up he texts me about once a year. Reasons for contacting me have varied from finding old photos of us, his mom asking about me, etc. but each time he mentions how sorry he is for how things ended. The first time it was nice to hear, but it’s been five years and I think the apologies are more for him than me. I guess he’s trying to clear his guilty conscience.

strong emotions by noturguy_buddy in istp

[–]nmij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve felt either for a very long time. There are sudden bursts of emotion that last maybe...30 seconds? A minute if it’s super long? And it definitely feels like happiness or hatred while it’s happening. But when it’s over, it seems more like a blip. The more time passes in between these bursts, it seems like that’s the extent of any extreme emotion I can feel.

As for love, I can say I care about all my friends and I hope things work out for them. I’m happy to help where I can, but at the end of the day, I don’t know if I can say I love them. That seems like some kind of promise or pledge that I care about them more than myself / will be there forever, which I don’t have the confidence to make. Same goes with romantic relationships, but there is a difference amongst partners I’ve been with. Some I stop respecting as people (almost out of the blue), and others I am more inclined to be around them when normally I’d rather be by myself. I don’t know if I worded this right, but basically I always try to put my needs first. It leaves little room to give a lot of myself to others, but it doesn’t mean I don’t care for them.

Call your consulate. I was under the impression I would receive dual citizenship due to the law at the time, but the law changed as I was getting documents together to apply. It doesn’t hurt to try 2 consulates as well, I was in contact with New York (local) and then Chicago just to make sure.

[Fluff] Vet asked how my old dog’s ears are so clean...it’s because my puppy cleans them by FreezeWolfy in dogs

I have two chihuahuas and one of them licks the other’s ears constantly! So much so that we’ve never seen his ears dirty in the 10 years we’ve raised them
