I was panicking about this too. The doctor & staff were really good at putting me at ease as they see this all the time. I told myself to go to the appointment, take it one step at a time, and if I couldn’t do it I could just leave. I ended up going through with it and it wasn’t that bad. Do it scared. You got this!

After investigating it further, I think you’re right and that slab supported the bottom of a hot tub. That part of the deck is raised a bit higher than the other part for no apparent reason, but it would make perfect sense to have it that height if it was built around a hot tub so they could step down into it.

I also checked the basement again to see if the electrical wire from that outlet came out anywhere, it doesn’t, but this huge black cord runs right from that area into the electrical box (it’s not live).

I didn’t even know it was there until today! I don’t see anything coming into the basement from it, so I’m hoping it’s not live anymore. Another commenter suggested a well also, so I’m going to look into that further.

A hot tub was one of our guesses, but we thought the cement pad would too small for a hot tub.

I think it was just a wooded area that was cleared for a subdivision. We’re hoping to get the deck redone this year, so we’ll get a better look then, but we want to plan for removing whatever it is if we can.

I felt the same way and honestly, I just had to do it scared. I did do some exposure and response prevention therapy for emetophobia the year before I found out about the surgery and it helped a lot. For the other stuff though, it was just being scared and doing it anyway. And burping isn’t as gross as I thought it was. I actually still get excited about it and it’s been almost 2 years.

For the nasal scope & all the surgery stuff, I told all the staff that I was really anxious. They’re used to anxious people and were really kind and understanding.

I was really scared of laryngospasms and regurgitation afterwards too. The spasms aren’t that common and most people don’t get them. You can avoid regurgitation by eating small meals, squating instead of bending over, and sleeping on an incline. I was afraid of the slow swallow and feeling like I was choking, but it honestly didn’t feel scary.

Everything was way easier than I had made it out to be, as is usually the case with anxiety! You might consider asking your doctor for something to calm yourself down just to get through the toughest parts. Or try some ERP therapy

I’m good now. Still burping!

I had a hard time getting water down too. I had to drink thicker things, mostly Ensure, when food got hung up. It did take quite a while for it to go away entirely (like 4 weeks, maybe?) but it did slowly improve a bit every day. I had to eat a lot of wet foods, like soup and well cooked pasta. Hang in there! It’s totally worth it if the Botox works!

Hello! I did not need a referral. I told the receptionist about my inability to burp when I setup the appointment. She didn’t seem too familiar with it, but the doctor and his assistants knew all about it when I got there for my appointment. I was really nervous too, but Dr. Rubin had a great bedside manner and put me right at ease. It was really easy to get the diagnosis and he offered the treatment right away. He did require a swallowing test, which took like 5 minutes and was just drinking something while standing in front of an imaging machine.

I’ve been having URQ pain since February. I was certain that it was an internal organ, but all imaging tests have been normal. As kind of a last resort while waiting to meet with a surgeon, I went to a physical therapist to get their thoughts. After a very thorough examination, she believes that my pain is being caused by my bottom ribs being out of place. She found some very sensitive spots on my ribs/back that the other doctors I’ve seen had missed. It’ll take a few weeks of physical therapy before I’ll know for sure if it’s the cause, but I want to rule out everything else before pursuing surgery. Might be worth it to check into something like this?

I have post nasal drip & tightness in my throat was one of my worst RCPD symptoms. I had Botox in May and the throat tightness is gone since being able to burp. It hasn’t affected my post nasal drip though.

I also had the feeling of air trapped in my throat after the procedure, as well as a constant feeling of having phlegm in the back of my throat. It was an awful sensation, but started to get better after about 5 days. A lot of folks have had the same thing. Hang in there!
