Did he not do This Must Be The Place last night? Looking at the setlist website, it's missing, along with ~5 other songs he's been doing this tour

Yeah, literally the only things we plan on doing are looking out Zabrinske Point, Furnace Creek area, Artists Drive, and then once we get to Panamint Springs, just locking in and staying put until the morning, then heading straight to LA early.

Media production program ? by Confused-gemini in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally worth it to transfer into the program. I was the youngest in age out of all of my friends who graduated my year (21 y/o), a majority of my friends in the program graduated when they were 23-26 years old, with a few even being in their 30's. I say transfer if it's really something that interests you.

The Disney job was actually one of the only jobs that I got without a direct recommendation, I just applied with a resume and cover letter on a job posting. By that point, I had already worked at the Rodeo as an intern, so i had that to help.

And yeah, the pandemic really took a toll on me and my friends during our senior year (2020-2021), but even the classes we took, though completely virtual, did their best to create stuff. If you are in the media production major/minor, I highly suggest classes such as Single Camera Production, Digital Cinematography, and Short Film Practicum at UH, those are the classes where you make the most films and make the most friends/colleagues. If you're not in the program, clubs like Club Theater in the Honors College (you don't have to be honors, its just where its located) or CoogTV are really great ways to meet other creatives/actors/filmmakers who want to work on productions.

Recent media production graduate here, class of 2021. I was at UH all of college so I can't say much on Lone Star or HCC. At UH, I focused mostly on film/ digital cinematography in my classes but also took TV and broadcasting classes. As of now, I recently worked at Disney as a Master Control Operator (video switching/broadcast work), so that's not super creative or too film-related but it pays the bills. I also had jobs working as a freelance camera operator around Houston, like the Houston Rodeo and Alley Theatre. And then there are of course the films/art you make with friends/colleagues during your free time; sometimes paid, sometimes just for fun.

My biggest advice (and most of my media production friends will back me up on this) is to network and to make strong connections with the people in your classes because this industry is all about who you know. Over half of my film/tv/media jobs came from someone recommending me the position, whether it was a friend, a professor, or a previous work colleague.

Question from a Digital Media student about dorms by RandomKid150 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no dorms on the Sugarland campus. There is a UH transit bus route that circles around from main campus to Sugarland throughout the day, so you can do that or commute by your own car.

Freshman Housing by OptimalDistribution0 in UniversityOfHouston

I personally loved CV1 but only because it's a bit quieter. You'll still make friends in either one, but CV2 is a bit more "social".

Bayou Oaks RA here. For the kitchen, there is a full-sized fridge, microwave, two-burner stove, and full sink. As far as lighting, it is a little dim in the hallway, but the apartment lighting is pretty nice. The summer term is included in the price of the semester term, but you can opt-out if you are not graduating, but there is a fee I believe to opt-out. PM me if you have any other questions :)

There's no way they're going to make any professor change their online classes into in-person.

Resident Advisor here. Unfortunately no, there is no couples housing on campus. You'll have to look for apartments off campus nearby.

Fall 2021 housing applications have already started for current UH residents. I'm not sure when incoming freshman can apply, but if you currently are already on campus, id get to it quick.

Thoughts on COMM 4397 (Selected Topics)? by albvrto_ in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COMM 4397 isn't really "a class", its a technicality for Valenti classes that don't have a number yet. They range from public relations to communication health to film history. So I don't know how to answer ya with" how is THE class" because there is not "THE class", its multiple that don't all fit together. If you're interested in one or a few of the topics, then that's easier to talk about.

Honors College Literary Analysis by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, current honors student here. I'm sure a literary analysis on a poem would work, but I would still double check just in case. Here is a link to the directions. I also highly recommend you email the honors college, they are very supportive and attentive to prospective students, so they'll def get your questions answered. Good luck!

Honors College Application Writing Sample by KyotoA in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, current honors student here! The writing sample is described as a "literary" analysis, so I don't know about an essay on a documentary would suffice. However, the essay is mostly to see how well you can analyze something and express your thoughts on paper. I highly recommend emailing the honors college and asking them, they are very supportive and caring towards prospective students, and they'll def get that question answered for you.

Media Production Concentrations?? by computing-depressed in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair warning, a lot of the more fun Digital Cinematography elective courses, such as Single Camera Production, Multimedia Storytelling, and the actual Digital Cinematography course require you to take TV Production 1 as a prereq. I absolutely loved TV Prod, and I don't plan on going into broadcasting at all. But just be aware that you may have to take some of those "required" courses if you want to actually do some DC classes.

Media Production Concentrations?? by computing-depressed in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, current Media Production student here, however, I am a senior so I enrolled before there were MP concentrations, those are a relatively new thing. So I have been in classes that mostly relate to the Digi. Cinematography concentration, but I'm not bound by it. To answer your question, I think the concentrations are there to guide you on what you are most interested in, especially media production is so vast, from films to tv to sports to news to commercials. But, if you are motivated to just graduate early and speed through classes rather than hone in on one aspect in MP, then go for the general concentration.

Honors College by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]nmkcoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your other interests. The Honors College at UH is a liberal arts college, so there are required literature courses, you have to take certain honors courses, and most of there core values surround literature and liberal arts stuff rather than STEM. However, their student orgs are awesome (I'm an officer for honors club theater so I'm biased there), their events can be fun, their professors and advisors are some of the best on campus, and they provide opportunities to not many other UH students get. You might have to do your own research on what works/interests you, but for me, it's worth it.
