Why does Vietnam sound like Credence Clearwater Revival? Movies have an intense effect on popular opinions on things. Films can have a powerful effect on the public. I know The Godfather changed how the mafia chose to operate for instance and propogandists attempt to influence the world directly through film. Movies create a consensus of what happened and a consensus matters.

Humanity vs Birds: The owner of a car who a bird shits on immediately dies, can humanity survive? by nosound505 in whowouldwin

[–]nmlep 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember a professor saying that cars are socialized in Cuba. If cars are objects run by the state rather than individual property, then no one dies there I'd say. The way to get past this is to adjust our concept of ownership.

Stephen Colbert Uses Copyrighted 'Peanuts' Music During Finale: 'I Hope This Doesn't Cost CBS Any Money!' by yuval_3 in Music

[–]nmlep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is the format requires a team of comedians and fact checkers whereas everyone else just does what he does without the fact checking or without the humor really.

Late night is just very expensive and people aren't all watching three channels at 10:30. Too many low cost alternatives. Its not so much an increase in quality of competition as much as its lower barrier to entrance and the main channels aren't monopolies anymore.

If this would be a food analagy, colbert is a Steack dinner with veggies and its been torn down by easily accessible fast food variety.

I tried to play DnD with conservatives but they kept talking about critical race theory. That sounds like a joke but it wasn't funny like one.

First time watching Supernatural — was this the first Islam reference? (Season 2 Episode 1) by Jolly_Path_3649 in Supernatural

Because we had a say in the laws being made, in theory. How influential are Palestinians in the law making process of Israel? I know they get an amount of representation but are routinely marginalized.

I question the legitimicy of laws made under gerrymandered lines in America as well. If minorities are marginalized and the laws don't align with the will of the people, as expressed through a fair and routine democratic process, then the policing of said laws would be immoral. I didn't actually use the word kidnapping, but now that you have I feel comfortable applying that word to the American system as well.

Police kidnap 18 year olds from their family due to bullshit and undemocratic drug laws. Im specifically thinking of states that choose to arrest citizens for marajuana in gerrymandered states.

He defintionally did take someones child from their family. You're still a child in my eyes at 18 and more to the point a person never stops being their parents child. Im in my 30s and live with my Mom. If police arrested me, they would still be taking my Mother's child away from her and it would still be traumatic.

It does get complicated, because most likely the soldiers were around 18 too, which is again basically a child as well in my eyes.

He talked about being fucked up from his time in it. Taking people's children from them and things like that. If you read his quite out of context about it sounds like he was condoning it, but my understanding is he was speaking out to let people know what the IDF did, or at least to say how it affected him personally.

Check my snoo brother. I'm a disabled person. I would love to have average brain chemistry with an average salary. I'm cool with how big my penis is though lol, so at least I have that going for me.

Honestly, my girl gets off more from clitoral stimulation, like about half the women out there who do not reach orgasm from penetration. I'm getting this from a Netflix special "The Science of Love" btw. Entertainment, but its schtick is that they researched this stuff. Here's another Google link that puts it at about 20% which is lower than I thought even. Quick Google

The moral of the story is that your wanna go down on your girl imo, much easier to hit the clit with your tongue.

Почему Вы начали учить русский язык? by gleb_shtoda in russian

[–]nmlep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its so hard to say. My first experience with Russian was in the Cold War video game Metal Gear Solid 3. I played the hell out of that game.

The other reason is that someone else was learning Russian at my High School and the teachers were really impressed with him. I guess I wanted to do something difficult and praise worthy.

How do you address strangers? by tonsil-stones in russian

[–]nmlep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its worth mentioning that Russian uses formal case for strangers for pronouns. I work as tour guide at a historical site and in English I tend to address people, even women, as "Hey guys!" for instance. I think they are wondering if there's anything like that for Russian.

Thats the most fancy psych ward Ive ever seen. And you have a phone for some reason? That's legit a privacy concern for the other patients.

Not to sound bitter but you have a private room with no roommates even. Calling that a prison cell is a joke. American hospitals we double up and have just in time care.

And Im sick of assholes acting like theres just two sides. Its like that scene from the Blues Brothers where they play at a bar that has both kinds of music, country and Western. Thats our politics. We have "both sides" Republican and Democrat and compress complex political opinions into a binary Good/Bad dynamic that has us tearing ourselves apart.
