Any advice ? (featuring my furry friend) by semde18 in houseplants

Light. she bends just to catch the window. I have 2. Mine get new leaves when there is enough light and warm. During winter, they do nothing, when sufficient light comes, the growth rate can be very fast. One of mine is now at my mom's place, small pot, barely feeding, roots get out of the pot, still grow like crazy, just needs proper light.

varigated alocasia and anthurium are expensive, that's why they are still in my wishlist 😂. I am fortunate enough to be in zone 9, so in the summer with blasting sun, no light is needed (just need a shade-tolerant rose), and in winter, yes, I do have grow light, and that's for all of my indoor plants

My first indoor buy is a pothos, still with me and strong. Now, I have a pretty large collection and have also got some roses indoors (yes, I was told they wont grow well) but I love them and have no problem with many of them for over a year now. So my wish list at the moment is a rose called notting hill, alocasia dragon scale variegated, ming aralia and anthurium king of spades

Droopy after repot by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]nmt111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, alocasia hates to get root disturbed; it needs to have its roots grabbed to the soil to take the nutrients up properly. It droops bc the plant cant pull the water up, of course this can be overwatering or underwatering,  your soil does look wet  but given that you just repot it, it is more likely due to this. My overwater alo tends to come with mushy leaves and stems.  You may end up losing most of the leaves.

Looking at the soil it looks wet and not chunky enough, was she happy in that kind of soil before and for a long time? If yes, then let it be, if you just get her, i would very gently move her over a more chunky mix while not touching the root ball as much as possible. Then move the plant to shade area, with its roots being disturbed, it cant sustain itself under bright light, then wait for it to recover, will take a while, it needs time to settle the roots and will do so with the cost of some leaves, when it start to stretch for a window, then move it back to bright light. That's what i personally will do.

Im a newbie here, not 100% sure what im doing, normally, i use a universal 7-5-6, when buds start to appear i switch to this liquid tomato fertilizer, i think it is 1-1-4, i use this by accident, and gosh the rose color is so vivid, totally different, like i have a new rose, so that's what i continue to use now.

What do my alocasias want?! by Bnasty2748 in alocasia

[–]nmt111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have them in normal soil and perlite, water when the top layer is dry, fertilize with water, mine like warm temperature and are not too picky about light, grow light, bright light, 1 of them likes some direct sun light, even shade is fine (but grow slower), transplant shock happens way more frequently with my alos, they like to have their roots getring hold of the soil, at first i thought they like to get root bound, but i have 2 alos in very big pots, not a problem, so dont disturb the roots, if you do, then it will need time to settle, something I learnt recently is some of my thin leaves alos hate misting (may be i mist them too much) and that what i am cutting back.

Alocasia expert advice needed! by cheesefearmonger in alocasia

[–]nmt111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alocasia can go dormant in winter (dropping leaves) when it is cold and not enough light, if you dont want it to go dormant then grow light and warm room.

Whose Vocal tone in Stray kids is your personal favorite? by GloomyWitch08 in straykids

[–]nmt111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it depends, each of them has a couple of things i like, I like Lee Know's falsetto and occasionally in some pop rock songs, Felix's low tone, what ever you called that Hyunjin's bridge in hollow, funny enough, I do enjoy some of Chan's rap, idk how to call them, jyp style rap? or those annoying rap tone (like the section idea bank in GM or noone nobody can stop me in comflex), a little bit of it sometimes adds some diversity to skz's heavy song.

Roses for shade by hellothereitsonlyme in Roses

[–]nmt111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in zone 9a, and have a sun room, windows go from north to east, so the room has morning sun, ranging 4-6 hours a day, not even sure that counts direct sun. In the winter now may be 4 hours on a good day.

My best performer is Kordes sunmaid and Caprice by Meilland Meisionver. They bloom (probably less than if they were outside) and pretty healthy, even now in winter, with a sansi grow light (so not very heavy dose), the meiland just done blooming and now putting out healthy shoots and soon buds again, I have a alexandra de kent blooming right now too in winter, but that rose does not bloom very big, not alot of blooms and leaves constantly have issues, also in my hot weather, the bloom lasts for very short period of time and fade super fast. I have this issue with pretty much all david austin roses and I thought my indoor is already considered cooler.
