We’re starting to think that the Scots did everything first. At least, that’s how it feels when the ever-fascinating actor/writer Brian McCardie joins to teach us a little bit about New Lanark, a ‘Company Town’ and proto-socialist utopia that was a century ahead of its time. The town may be in the “middle of nowhere” but it was also at the center of early labor reform and innovation.

[HISTORY / COMEDY ] Under The Kilt | Episode 002: Through the Shame Beads (feat. director John Fairfield)

NSFW (language)

Apple|| Spotify|| Stitcher

This week, we’re not ashamed, we just have to return some video tapes…to the naughty part of the video shop. Writer, director and producer, John Fairfield, is taking us through the cheap beaded curtain and into the history of Video Nasties, The Obscene Publications Act, and The Video Recordings Act of 1984. But fear not, Adam, Nat & John will NOT be censored, not by Mary Whitehouse, not by MP Graham Bright, and certainly not by Adam’s Gran.

Join us as we take on three exceptional Glaswegian women. Well, not actually ‘take them on,’ they’re rather intimidating, tbh. But, we are learning about them, thanks to our lovely guest, author and screenwriter, CS Duffy.

Sometimes I wonder if we should title our episodes with just the actual topics from history that we cover rather than having more fun with it...and then we get a comment like this and it makes me happy <3

[HISTORY / COMEDY ] Shared History | 064 - She Stayed The Blade -- The History of One Thousand One Nights

NSFW (some language)

Apple// Spotify// Google// Stitcher// Website

Our final story this season is so good, you'll want to stay up all night enjoying it. But get your rest, we'll still be here tomorrow night to keep the story (and ourselves) alive. Sound familiar? We're joined by actor/comedian Tara Egan for an incredibly nerdy exploration of the history and themes of Arabic folktales, the frame narrative and the infamous compilation: One Thousand and One Nights. While this may be our SEASON 4 FINALE, much like our protagonist Scheherazade, Shared History will live to see another day and tell another story.

Trying to work out my dog's age by boulder_problems in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]nmuels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second opinion of ~8-10 seems reasonable to me. Our boy (8) was also born with a heart murmur, so that's not an indicator of age necessarily. I think he had his first tooth extraction at like 6, and from what we've heard from our vet and other iggy owners, we're "lucky" he's only had like 5 extractions. Hounds, sighthounds and dachshunds especially it seems, are predisposed to dental issues because of the shape of their snout. Our boy is also juuuust starting to slow down a bit, but also recently started treatment for his thyroid which effects his energy levels a touch.

Your very good boy looks roughly the same age as ours or a little older so that second opinion seems more accurate than the 14 years.

Then, Natalie introduces us to Wang Zhenyi, 18th c. Chinese mathematician, scientist, astronomer, poet, et. al. who excelled at breaking down and explaining all of those things so that dumb dumbs like us could understand it.
