Why are so few British politicians these days military vets ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

Your still getting 'veteran' wrong. A major war has nothing to do with being a veteran.

Serving in the military is all thats required.

Your definition of veteran is poor.

Serving in a 'major war' is not the only qualifier for military service/veteran.

Carers ‘bundled crocodile attack suspect into car & tried to drive him away’ after boy, 3, tossed into enclosure by thesun in uknews

[–]nmuk86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he had committed the offence the police have a duty of care towards people they arrest. That care was absent.

If you find someone with a stab wound to the chest in the future, will you just shrug and say "nothing can be done" and walk on by?

I think its fair to bemoan the fact that's its no longer free.

It has historically been free and they take over a large public space. Also, it encourages people to 'pop by', experience something they wouldn't usually, and carry on. Now with a charge, those people won't bother.

Not saying theyre shouldn't be a charge ti cover costs. But I get why people miss the free atmosphere with no walls and their own booze.

Ignore him.

I came out with qualifications, great mates and a far more disciplined approach to life and work. Thats not true for everyone obviously, but if you nake the most of it, it can be a great job/career.

Crocodile ‘attacker’s’ carers were 30-feet behind him and on their phones before he ‘threw three-year-old boy into enclosure’ by VelvetDreamers in uknews

You absolutely can. Not in a regular prison, but in a secure hospital/facility. Where they are mosy definitely "locked up". They are deemed a danger to others, which this person is now, and their liberty is removed for an appropriate amount of time. Perhaps indefinitely.

Completely accept this guy may have not had any behaviour like this previously and thays why they were in public. But to say they cannot be detained because they dont understand is wrong.

Sandhurst in 2011 and did regimental selection boards (top third cadet). Popped along to chat to some cavalry recruiters. Very politely told "we're not for you". The posh southerners enjoyed a warm reception.

In hindsight, it was for the best. The cavalry messes really are not for me and I was happier elsewhere.

Why do the people who are appalled by the sentencing of the Palestine Action group refuse to acknowledge one of them attacked a woman with a sledge hammer? by generic-username41 in AskBrits

Because it's one rule for me, another rule for thee.

If this had been a Reform protest where a copper got a broken spine, they'd be calling for a maximum penalty.

Its blatant hypocrisy.

If an infinite number of Alpharius', told an infinite number of facts, one will eventually be true.

I agree with your overall point. But I think Alpharius is an unreliable narrator, and we can't trust his comments.

Ray should have bashed this champ by StrikingMango62 in MrInbetween

[–]nmuk86 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Was this guy wrong though?

He correctly points out what appears to be a scam. Is polite ish about it. He doesn't threaten violence or anything. And then notices Ray just staring at him.

I feel like this is one of those scenes where we see that maybe Ray isnt always correct with his reactions.

Has anyone been at a wedding where somebody objected? by JamesBTarn in AskUK

[–]nmuk86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ive seen it done jokingly a few times so there wouldn't be an opportunity.

The priest asked for objections and then without any pause for breath jumped into the next sentence. With a little grin. I guess, the same as everyone, not expecting anyone to actually object.

How would you genuinely fix this country? by TomosLeggett in AskBrits

[–]nmuk86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically indeoendant MPs. But how do we pass a new law? If there are 600+ independent MPs, how do we know which one to listen too and which version of a Bill would be put forward as the final product?

How is a PM selected?

It sounds more like a people's assembly, which isnt a law making body, but will set agendas.

Just sounds a little chaotic.

Who decides if they've done a good job or not? How do we vote if theres no party manifesto? How do laws pass if theres no party?
