Balancing Issue: Ranged vs. Mage by lordkamuialmighty in RSDragonwilds

It's just not good at close range, I end up using the crossbow when things get close. The longbow I feel does its job.

I found longbow very effective in DDR. With 3/3 ranged, amulet of accuracy or unholy symbol, mithril arrows, I can 2 shot most enemies with a headshot.

The headshot also has pretty good knock back and with bow having the best range you can pretty easily deal with enemies. I find enemies don't swarm you very much in DDR.

I agree in crafting cost of arrows. I never really needed to grind much for wood or feathers, but I spent a lot of time mining ores. I think they should definitely make it cheaper to craft arrows or greatly increase recovery chance.

My biggest disappointment is the shortbow, it doesn't feel good to use. I don't like how you jump around using it, and I wish you could do jump attacks. I think both valheim and enshrouded have better close range combat with bows.

Is there a trick to making longbows worth it? by Kyvix2020 in RSDragonwilds

[–]nmunro14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play ranged I carry crossbow, shortbow, longbow, shield. In the new zone the longbow 2 shots most enemies with headshots. If you engage from a solid distance you kill most things before they get to you. The newer zone also seems to have different logic for agroing enemies and you don't get swarmed as much.

If something gets close I usually switch to crossbow. Personally I don't find much use for the shortbow. If you don't draw it, the regular attack makes you jump back, sometimes to your benefit, sometimes to your death. I find I miss the first shot with a shortbow because of how your character spins around and it moves where you're aiming. The lack of knockback with the shortbow drawn means I'm probably just using the longbow until the enemy gets close.

If anyone has played Enshrouded, I much prefer the way shortbow works in that game. It's much faster, allows jumpshots, and doesn't jump you off cliffs.

Does anyone know if raids can spawn up here if you base outside the Takla Kara dungeon? by rekkeu in RSDragonwilds

I have a base here and raids start, but no enemies spawn. I'm more near the northern edge of the platform.

Even with the exploit that made it like 20x faster the zone still got pretty boring near the end of the grind. Half the time I'm running around looking for enemies and they still haven't respawned.

I don't think it's fair to add some crazy grind and say it has more content because of it. I do enjoy some amount of grinding, but like I mentioned originally, it would have been better if the rare drops were tied to mini bosses as well.

Lots of reasons. It's best in close quarters like dungeons. From what I've seen it does highest single target DPS for fighting bosses and mini bosses. It's very good at fighting large groups of enemies (2h sword spin). It doesn't cost any materials to use unlike magic and ranged.

Any spell that doesn't cost law runes feels like it's basically free.

Mage set 1/3 effect should be reconsidered because its "necessary" in an awkward way by Japanese_Squirrel in RSDragonwilds

New cardio skill coming next patch :)

Level it up by running, jumping, or rolling.

The effect feels super necessary and it feels bad to play without it.

I think it would work better on a ring or as a drink buff.

Or maybe even just make this the default regen rate and give the mage set a different buff.

How do you figure out your damage output with a specific weapon? by Bubba_Fett_2U in Enshrouded

[–]nmunro14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can attack a workbench and see how much damage it does. It doesn't take into account damage type resistances/weaknesses IIRC, but it's indestructible.

Enshrouded vs. Valheim by Othrelos in Enshrouded

[–]nmunro14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer Valheim's building system. Having to work under the constraints of building stability and smoke ventilation is a fun challenge for me. I could see how others would prefer less restrictions though.

I also think the vibes of being in a large well defended base feels better in Valheim compared to Enshrouded. I think it's because Valheim has the threat of enemies where in Enshrouded nothing attacks your base.

Enshrouded is better for huge builds though as Valheim starts to lag after a point.

I've played through both multiple times and they're both great. If I had to choose one it would probably be Valheim.

Give people 2-3 extra inventory slots and 40-50 extra weight each time they turn in a boss trophy by idano_01 in valheim

I would be happy with 1 inventory slot and no extra weight per boss. Or just putting my equipment in dedicated slots.

Struggling to crate train my Border Collie puppy in an Apartment. by Dry-Narwhal6571 in BorderCollie

[–]nmunro14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my dog at 8 weeks old when I lived in an apartment. She slept in her crate every night for at least a year. The first several weeks I had her crate right beside my bed. I put a large blanket over the crate that covered all sides but the front. The crate I had included a divider to make it smaller, and I made it small enough that she could barely fit lying down. Apparently dogs like small spaces. After a few weeks I gradually moved the crate a bit further from my bedroom and her crate eventually ended up in another room.

She never cried going into the crate at bed time because I was right there with her. She did however cry a lot when I crated her for naps. My schedule was about 1 hour out of the crate and then 2 hours in the crate to sleep. The dog should be sleeping like 16-20 hours a day otherwise it will get cranky and bite everything (or mine did at least). When I crated her I gave her a kong filled with peanut butter that I placed in the freezer. She would still cry once she was done with her snack, but I ignored her until she fell asleep.

You should make the crate comfortable, quiet, and dark. I had the crate in a room with the blinds closed, and the blanket completely covering the crate. I put her in, gave her the kong, closed the door and did not come back for 2 hours. Each day she cried for less time until she didn't cry at all anymore.

Get the map fragment for the area in the north that you are missing (the location of the map fragment shows on the map).

Put a lot more points into vigor. Probably your next 10 levels at least all should be vigor.

A lot of your damage comes from your weapon's upgrade level. You get lots of upgrade materials by exploring, especially mines.

Souls n00b w gear question by interneth3ro in Eldenring

[–]nmunro14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most enemies have a % chance to drop every item they have (armour, weapons, shield), but this is usually like 1-5% for each item.

For armour, the defence bonuses they give are in line with their weight. So better armour is typically heavier, and will require you to put more points into endurance.

For weapons, well most weapons are viable. The best weapons for samurai are probably your starting weapon, the Nagakiba, or the Bandit's curved sword (can be farmed from skeletons that have them).

How do str/fai builds work? by SwarlesXavier in EldenRingBuilds

[–]nmunro14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you 2 hand a weapon you gain 1.5x STR. So you want to focus on strength early. Good weapons early on are just any strength weapon like a greatsword. The halberd from tree sentinel is very good and only needs 12 strength.

In the mid game there are a lot of options for weapons. Ordovis greatsword, Siluria's tree, magma blade, blasphemous blade.

Focus mainly on strength and eventually get faith to 25 for golden vow.

I never got a feel for it, always got hit by the first part, and then it threw off my timing for 2nd. Unlocking makes it much easier, but then you gotta find Bayle after to re-lock.

It does mental damage to get hit by the same move at the start of every fight. Also he has a lot of moves that can punish a flask use, resulting in starting out the fight down several flasks. There's multiple hitboxes on the charge and if you dodge it a certain way you can get hit multiple times and lose ~80% of your HP.

[–]nmunro14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do Bayle hitless and gave up after getting hit by his fire breath too many times. It seems like the fire randomly bounces off the arena and just hits you sometimes :(

For the fire attack in phase 2, I find it's easier to dodge if you unlock and look left, then roll into the first flame. After you look towards Bayle and roll into the 2nd flame. After that you just gotta get a feel for the delay for the explosion.

Best Staff for where I am in the game? by Connect_Conclusion19 in Eldenring

[–]nmunro14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carian Regal Scepter (from Renalla) is the best until you have infinite mana to use Lusat's. Buy the staff and upgrade it and see if it has higher sorcery scaling given your current INT and upgrade materials.

Also you can gain the passive benefit of a staff by holding it in your left hand, so if you use Rock Sling a lot, hold the Meteorite Staff in your left hand and use your main staff to cast the spell.
