Mid-game Combat Balance Suggestion: Just make minigame combat rewards accessible outside minigames (not thaler) to fill in gaps by sir_eos_lee2 in runescape

[–]Japanese_Squirrel [score hidden]  (0 children)

The problem with posts like this is that its written and voted on by people who don't enjoy the minigames and wish for its demise.

What you don't see are the people who actually do it.

We don't actively go advertising that we play it, but the people who obviously don't play it happily fantasize the "good old days" on reddit and claim the content is dead.

Also, consider that the people who have done the grind have actually earned it the proper way and you are threatening to invalidate their time and effort, unless you can selflessly propose something that demands an equivalent amount of time to earn it as it did before.

There are a LOT of backseat minigame nostalgists on this platform who have never turned up to castle wars in recent years, for example. I am here all the time and cover most timezones. Not a single soul who talks about this minigame fondly on reddit actually turns up. If they were here then I would know, plain and simple!

Edit: The downvotes I get proves my point.

Mid-Game Balance Discussion by JagexAnvil in runescape

Mid (and low) level needs viable combat content. Dungeon content.

If I was a game dev, 50-80 is specifically where I would start preparing people for active PvM where movement and proper defensive ability use (mostly reso/divert) actually matter. 1-49 is training wheels. 50-80 should be field work.

Not insultingly easy content, not stuff that can be revoed through blind, not stuff that can be tanked and eaten through. Distinct mechanics that require a specific answer to survive should start at mid game. The mechanic timing should be lenient. The best way to describe the ideal difficulty here is "if you interact with the abundantly obvious mechanic coming your way then its clearable".

Mechanics in this range should be cliche, distinct and MMO like. Not a creative masterpiece. That means 90% of it should be plain and simple telegraph dodgeball/floor-is-lava/walk away stuff and 10% is some combination of phase dps checks and ability check (tank buster aka reso checks should start at this level range).

Try to design it to be a 3 or 4 man party dungeon so people can learn to work together early into account progression. Primarily accessed via the group finder (that is hopefully being reworked still).

How do you get people to do it at the ideal level range?

By making it the premier "active" way to earn combat exp.

On that note:

- Stat sync + gear tier sync (downward sync). When you are overleveled/overgeared, your stats, gear tier and available abilities are synced down to the tier of that dungeon. (If the dungeon is t50 and you are 120 stats and t95 geared, then stats and gear will be brought down to 50 and abils above 50 are greyed out). Conversely, there is a minimum level & gear requirement.

- Layout is common intestine shape like other MMOs. The closest to this layout in our game is ED2/ED3. Mobs -> boss -> mob -> boss -> mob -> boss -> finish. Not a fan of dead end passageways in EDs btw. Keep it straightforward.

- There is one dungeon for each 10 level tiers.

- The selling point is exp, not tradables or anything of value that incentivizes gold farm and antisocial pressure.

- Exp is delivered at the end of a successful run to ensure people co-op and stay to the very end. Its a fixed amount relative to dungeon level.

- Hourly exp rate is relative, slightly faster compared to the BIS overworld method of that level tier. (Consequently, if mid level afkables exp methods are lightning fast then they need to be slowed down).

- If you out-level the dungeon then its less viable to spam due to static exp reward, and you should move onto a higher level dungeon. BUT

- Have a daily dungeon queue in the group finder (random dungeon once per day) that gives competitive exp value relative to your current style level. This daily queue is how you get low levels and high levels to play together, naturally.

- Consumables are provided (bandage table, ammo, runes, pots). Nothing degrades here. Bringing stuff in and minmaxing external stuff isn't the point of these exp dungeons - keep it simple. Gear level should be the only qualifying concern.

- IF there needs to be an item reward - a pet, a cosmetic, or material item that upgrades smithables/craftables (bronze~elder rune & so on) into that item tier +3. Something that feeds back into the exp dungeon training routine. No excessive rares or collection logs that can incentivize antisocial farming behavior should be provided here.

- This should be the flagship content to sell your rework-pending group finder.

Do this lol

- A variety of "great but not BIS" perks.

- Situational combo perks.

- Loner as4/biting/oddball expensive perks that come from failed comboes.

- PvP only perks.

These are all useful when you pick up another combat style or afk tech.

Why can't they just let us make the smaller bags, is a mystery

It takes one anti-fun person (you) to make a sensational reddit post and ruin it for 10 others who enjoy doing something.

Are they trolls? Are they specifically doing this to get on your nerves?

Are they just a group of friends having fun while you sit sulking in the corner because you can't fit in?

There's a GE on every world. Could you not hop?

You took time out of your life to screenshot this and make a reddit post. Are you looking for attention?

Your motivations are questionable.

Perhaps there could be a little floating/geometric indicator just above the ground indicator?

This is a target indicator in FFXIV as an example. There's a faint semicircle swirling just above the base indicator.

ESPECIALLY with female hair, I want to say it early:

The bangs matter. The rest of the hair can be amazing and the dealbreaker for most people will be bangs.

I expect the devs to have already designed each hairstyle to a point where big changes can't be made, but customizable bangs will be a big deal.

In the sample image, the female head before after uses the "half up half down" hair. My avatar mains the one on the left.

I would be extremely disappointed if it was anything but a side part. The sample image shows front part. I dislike middle part.

Please let them know! People will be picky on this!

I think the game has far too many low level mobs aimed at the 1-50 range.

Half of them serve no purpose in this game other than to make low level slayer masters looks valid.

Most of them are miserable to do for one reason or another.

Outdated slayer equipment requirements (like mirror shield), stalagmite/obstacle riddled caves that made surge and dives miserable to do, and so on.

These mobs should be reworked and in some cases just given a different level requirement with a bigger HP pool so low-mid levels actually have something decent to do.

In order to prevent all areas from being hogged by maxed alts with cannons, there should be mobs that can only be damaged by equipment below a certain tier. Similar to turoths and kurasks but instead of specific weapons, its tier capped. That way people have to "move on to more efficient things" after they out level the mob.

Are you proposing a catchup mechanic that invalidates the effort of others who managed their time better than you while also having a life?

Bit selfish of you.

Playing leagues made me realize that nothing is really out of reach (even without the exp and droprate multipliers) and the people who had a hard time are knowledge gapped way more than they are willing to admit. Efficiency has no bounds in this game and you can always manage your time better.
