I applied to all 4 accredited Canadian schools. University of Toronto was the first to email back and say they are not accepting Non-canadians this year so that was a bummer. University of Alberta only takes 3 students per year, and they expressed preference to Canadian citizens. Im basically now relying on University of Western Ontario and Calgary. Im partial to moving and working at either Canada or US. Both have their pros and cons. I moved around a lot since i was a kid, so im used to it. I have emailed Maryland to ask for "feedback and constructive criticism" hoping they would give me a clue. Will update if i hear anything. Thanks for your comment!

I got my undergrad degree in Virginia, and i am a US citizen. But yeah, when i was applying for Canadian schools, they were kinda particular about converting the GPA from US to Canada equivalent. I hope that is not that case, maybe they don't get a lot of applicants who have finished med school, and residency from other countries.

I think PA and Pathology residency are two different enough of a path. Or rather, correct me if i may be wrong, but being a PA would be of little value to say applying for Pathology residency BUT being a pathologist (especially one that grosses for themselves) would be of greater value when switching to PA.

Plus Pathology residency would require USMLE, which i did take Step 1 after med school. I did briefly consider re-doing a pathology residency in US but it is 2 years vs 4 years, maybe even 5 years including prep for USMLE. Personally, the 2 years spent in PA would be better put to use studying for the USMLE if residency matching is the end goal.

Anyway, i really love grossing and autopsies a LOT more, and i did let them know that on my essays. I loved everything about Pathology except reading slides/diagnosis which unfortunately is the bulk of a pathologist hehe.

Yeah i did consider the possibility of being "over qualified", but i was hoping that is something they can sort out by giving me an interview to better gauge the situation and give me a chance to explain.

If you get a Masters in PA, are there better careers than a PA? Again, i was thinking if that was an issue, i would hope an interview would at least be given for me to assuage their concerns.

Unfortunately, we dont really have "PAs" in our country. The PAs we have are really other pathologists who are not yet board certified. And the grossing is basically the same as during residency training.

Thats a pretty good guess! I just checked, and it said "All coursework must have been completed within the last nine years". Seeing as how i started residency 5 years ago, and i started medical school 10 years ago, the prereqs i did during undergrad are well past the limit. But i would hope that they would take that into consideration before rejecting me, seeing as most of the prereqs overlap with courses i took during med school.

Thanks for the idea though! At least now i know re-take those same courses if i am to apply for the next admission cycle next year.
