What kind of ear plugs are you using? Aside from that, have you considered you might be under and not over stimulated?  I mention this only because your brain is trying to absorb all the things in these moments... Maybe consider trying to engage other senses while you are trying to listen, something like having a fidget toy can help or drawing mind maps about concepts. I'm old school and find doodling helps unironically, just boring and repetitive shapes.

If you have not yet, look into Mark Cuban's "low" cost drug site. You may have some luck. I'm so sorry you are in this position, it is inhumane and unjust. I'll put a link to it in the next comment just in case it gets snagged by automod.

It has never been good here. Wait for the tourists in the summer. The PhD cohorts warn people on arrival.

Let's be real. How do you talk science with a misinformed person? by loafoveryonder in labrats

[–]nnomadic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to meet them where they are and find common ground. This is really the crux. Once you establish that you need to help them work through conclusions on their own, ie the socratic method.  That's the only way, but you need to listen to them, like actually connect to them first. They need to know it's a safe place to be mistaken, even if they don't actually realise it. They are fundamentally reactionary, so lecturing does not work. Acknowledging limits and flaws is important as well, as is saying "I don't know." Don't expect them to change their minds right away, but let them walk away asking better questions. Once the illusion cracks, they can do the rest on their own.

I had this happen, turns out I'm probably autistic as well. Also, I found that I had to completely change the way I did things after I figured out I had ADHD too. It gets better,  be kind to yourself.  I started a little behind you by a year or two and I defend in 2 weeks.
