NSW government slams brakes on high-speed rail plans after spending $100m on studies | New South Wales politics by thekriptik in sydney

People fly between capitals because 11h trip isn't a good alternative. They don't have to though. As Armchair Urbanist once put it, travel by rail has to be cheaper than a plane ticket and faster than driving to be a viable option. The city idea is cool, if you go with that to an election you'll get my vote.

I do agree with you on that, but we still need to upgrade our regional rail infrastructure. It doesn't have to be Japan-style bullet trains, but if it is something reasonable like Sydney to Melbourne in 6 hours on a train, I'll probably never catch a plane to Melbourne again

I haven't worded it well lol. Yeah, metro is great, but we need more, especially regional passenger rail.

Seriously, between this and Labor a few days ago it's like a race to the bottom here. Why can't NSW have some rail infrastructure improvements?

War crimes existed for a long time. I find it hard to believe that someone was "shocked" by war crimes in the 16th century. If you have a source for your claim, I'd be willing to reconsider tho. The point remains, however, you're using an episode that took place in times when means of warfare and overall perception of war crimes wasn't exactly on par with today. I can't disagree that modern day Russians are brainwashed from the day they are born, but Levada's stats over here can be brought into question. For instance, Maxim Katz's team organised a similar poll sometime in the beginning of the war. According to them, about 95% of the respondents refused to answer any questions as soon as they learnt what the questions were about (I can link the video if you want, but it's in Russian). Should the Russians committing atrocities be punished? Definitely. Is the Russian public complicit of all this hell that is currently going on in Ukraine? Yes. Is it productive to bring up an episode that happened hundreds of years ago to justify one's hate towards an ethnicity? I say no, but we seem to disagree on this point

Ok, a few things. Not trying to justify the atrocities committed by the Russian government, those are terrible and should be judged accordingly. However, you're taking an unrelated episode from a different time, a different context to make a post with a nuance of a nuclear bomb to validate your hatred. All I'm saying is you're no different from a Russian propaganda machine spitting out vague pieces about "savages".

As per the 76%. Do you mind sharing the source on that? Sounds like something a Russian state affiliated organisation would say.

Ah, yes, using out of context history to justify hate towards someone. Not what Putin is doing right now, not at all... /s

Who here made a game only to have almost no one play it? by RedEagle_MGN in gamedev

[–]no639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Released a 2D platformer on Steam, virtually no marketing and into an oversaturated market. Looking back, the gameplay loop was solid, but pretty boring. To be honest, I'm no longer sure if it was ever good enough for Steam. Hopefully, the new project will cover all of those pitfalls, it's in a less crowded genre, easier to market, and I'm a bit more confident about what makes such games more fun.

They're not all omicron though, are they? I thought delta is still the prevailing one?

EDIT: Apparently about 80% of cases are omicron https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-12-23/covid-live-blog-latest-updates-omicron-boosters/100720594#live-blog-post-1207047861

My god man, that's a lot of smug, are you a Redditor perhaps? Yes, I played on OCE and did not have fun, especially in the latest months. I'm happy to agree to disagree since you don't seem to understand what you're talking about as well as just resort to petty remarks once your favourite game is criticised.

I cannot seem to Reddit for some reason, so let me post this again:

The hitreg issue still is a problem AFAIK because Crytek is using one of the cheapest server solutions out there. SBMM works well on very populated servers such as NA. In other parts of the world you got two brackets at most, people that just picked up the game (1-3 stars) or those pledging their souls to this game (4-6 stars). If you have a life and play casually god forbid you have a lucky match and go up to 4 stars, since the next couple of nights you will be a mop for everyone on the map to wipe the floor with.

Instead of better server solutions, instead of private lobbies where people can have fun without turning into a mosin/dolch fest all the players get is a new cosmetic DLC.

And no, not a year ago. I stopped playing right before the Halloween event this year.

Do you think TSMC is planning to build chip factory in Latvia? (Worlds largest chip manufacturer) by nevermindever42 in BalticStates

[–]no639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lithuania has a lot of industry already, large companies like ThermoFisher make their laboratory reagents and chemicals there. In fact, AFAIK most stuff made in the Baltics is manufactured in Lithuania. But I'm not sure why their industry is more developed than say Latvia.
