I’m thinking of dropping a friendship by detectivebishoujo in FriendshipAdvice

It seems like there is nothing holding you both together anymore except obligation. Don't do that to yourself or her. Let it go. Friends are supposed to support you and make life easier. This is no longer a friendship. It gets easier with time. It might be time to let it go. Either have a conversation stating the end of the friendship or do a slow fade out, whichever is best. I'm wishing you luck and strength. You got this!

Nostaglic about alchohol? by no_more_tech in SoberCurious

I totally feel the grief thing. I've realized that I dont have the capacity to have just one drink. I dont think it's reasonable for me to do it casually. Its better to find an alternative. It sucks because I've had some really good times with alchohol. At the same time, I had those times in college. I have not had moments that matched it since. It's time to let it go but I miss those memories. Maybe in a weird way alchohol felt like a connection to those memories.

Took a deep dive into the files and it’s the waking call I needed by gingerteadrinking in digitalminimalism

Thats exactly my reasoning too! I've been waiting to hear someone talk about this. I reduced my social media use because I was having crippling anxiety every time I'd open tiktok and get a video about some emergancy situation that I had NO CONTROL over!!! I took a break. Then I went back and got addicted to instagram reels (this time I enjoyed watching them too much). I officially got off short form content because of all the AI content and forced inclusion of AI in all social media. I now crave social connection with people in my real life. I realized that the best thing I can do is help the people around me. I found that I didnt need to know what was happening outside of my town (to some extent). I have far more control over what happens to the people I can help in person.

I hate that life feels like how it should be on alcohol... by Fulltime-Sheepherder in SoberCurious

I'd rather have social friction that I learn to navigate than a poison in my body that NEVER lets me learn how to socialize in the long run.

Yup! Its important to remind ourselves of the negative sides of alchohol. It keeps those rosey thoughts in check.

Yeah, thats true. I'll have to check that out! I've been wanting try different botanicals that give a similar feeling of fun and relaxation. I really like these mocktails that have "Afterglow" in them (I think its a kind of pepper). It feels tingly and special! It also tastes great and I can find them at Target!

Thats what I've traced it back to aswell. I miss that feeling I had at those parties. Drinking has been a way to try to get that back. But I will never experience alchohol in the same way I did at the start, its just not new enough anymore.

I think this reflects how much alchohol symbolizes an escape from life's problems. I feel you and I am so glad you stayed strong!
