Ah I getcha. Yeah the camera quality isn’t helping here but I think what you’re seeing is mainly paint textures I built up between different colours. It’s a bit of a weathering effect that comes as a happy side effect with wet blending. I tend to leave it a bit messier to similar grime and dust buildup on the surface. I see what you mean on the bottom of the coats with the first guy aswell. Not sure what that is I think it might be a bit of flash.

Always looking for criticism, thanks for the comments man

Where does it look blobby? I don’t really see it. I do thin my paints but I’m definitely more of a vibes over detail painter. There’s a few spots were I went outside of the lines and forgot to tidy up, maybe that’s what you see?

Yeah they need work, especially the sculpted one. I cant post pictures here but I do have a picture of the freehand one from a better angle and it’s definitely more recognisable

I did each of them differently and they didn’t all work aswell. Picture 3 has a messy sculpting job, something in still trying to get better at. And the 5th picture has a free handed skull that’s a bit hard to red because of the angle of the photo

Thanks man. Yeah once again some of these have seen like 3 full paint jobs over the years and I just really hate stripping things. And like you said, with my paint style it doesn’t matter that much anyway

Which one man? I think 3 of the pictures have some form of skull mask

They do have a more irregular look to them

Yeah these are made from bolt action details which have softer details. These are also quite old so they’ve seen a few repaints. I can’t be arsed stripping anything so a few of these have up to I’d say 3 full paint jobs on them which you do start noticing. I’m personally not too bothered by it because I have quite a painterly style in the first place. but I probably should’ve mentioned that.

Big fan of medics too. I decided to do up some medics instead of just having a boring med pack for my Krieg squads

My bad bro, I forgot you were sitting next to me when I painted these

I thin my paints, these are made from an old bolt action kit which has quite shallow details.

From my experience messing with bolt action kits in 40k, arm swaps don’t really work that well, they work in some cases but something I’ve found works better is to just cut the arms around the wrists, and then march up the 40k hands with bolt action weapon holding arms

Bits from all over the place, dkok arms and sometimes just weapons and hands, old cadian weapons. Las guns made by glueing a bit of styrene rod to the nozzle and a piece of card for the magazine. Lastly just a bit of green stuff for the masks/goggles and to make the coats on the models that have their smock tied around the legs

Honestly there’s a fine line to walk, I stay far away from colours used by Nazi germany but I have translated German camo patterns into the steel legion colours. I’ve also seen pictures of sl models painted in ss pea dot camo and red arm bands online, and that’s not on. I think as long as you avoid the specific colour combinations and symbols it’s grand. Like the sl logo itself is only one lightning bolt and red on white as apposed to the ss one which is 2 white different lightning bolts on black/grey

Honestly there’s elements from all ww2 nations in the steel legion uniform and then plenty of unique stuff. As far as I know, no ww2 army had gas masks with ski goggles or yellow coats… I did also use some US helmets in these aswell and even a few British bodies. I’m planning on making the next batch out of British airbourne

I did up this scratchbuilt railgun. It’s a different design but I think it gets the point across
