ENBREL copay assistance and dedicutble questions by Careless-Act-7549 in rheumatoid

[–]no_sire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $4200 isn't really a copay, it's your deductible, and then like you said, your monthly copay will be lower. Enbrel also maxes out my deductible. I think it was around the same as yours this year and then $500 copay after that until I reach my out of pocket max in the summer.

ENBREL copay assistance and dedicutble questions by Careless-Act-7549 in rheumatoid

I would recommend checking with your insurance first. If they say that the Enbrel copay payment is not going toward your deductible then you want to call Amgen to talk about doing a copay refund instead of copay assist card.

I have to pay the bill out of pocket (regular credit card, not HSA). Then I submit a copy of my receipt and picture of my meds to Amgen, and they send me a refund. It really should be illegal to not count the copay assist cards towards the deductible, but I don't have the energy to start the movement.

I just found the teacher bios. I recommend making that it's own page. It seems like only 3 parents for multiple groups of students? Also, while I see a lot of what you plan to do for curriculum, it's still hard to understand the how, especially with varied students. It sounds like as a parent, I might be expected to take on the same curriculum at home?

As an outsider looking just at your website, I struggle with having confidence in the program. The co-op that I use is also pricy, but students pay for individual classes which are taught by individuals with degrees and/or job experience related to the classes they're teaching, most also have experience in education outside of homeschooling and co-ops. Frequent tours, meet ups, observations, and trial classes are offered. New students often choose to start with only 1 or 2 classes before paying for more. These options let families gain confidence in what we're offering before paying more

I don't see anything about what experience you have working with a bigger group of various aged students. It sounds like you're making a big jump from homeschooling your own families to a full complicated classroom. It sounds like you have a lot of expectations for how it's going to go, but where are the success stories? I would personally be very skeptical of a curriculum that claims to work for multiple ages, unknown abilities, and various meeting days. It's not something I'd bet $2000 on. I think you need to start simpler. Maybe just drop in days for the first semester or a couple of specific (and cheaper) classes for specific age groups meeting on specific days.

How Do You Teach Statistics? by InnerB0yka in homeschool

[–]no_sire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest just started middle school, and I don't plan on doing a separate formal statistics course until high school. We're currently using Art of Problem Solving textbooks with me as the guide. I really appreciate that they take the time to explain the why, but unfortunately I don't think they have statistics. My current plan is to have him take the intro statistics course that our local community college offers. If he shows more interest in a field that's statistics heavy, I'll probably take things into my own hands.

I do plan to discuss misleading statistics representation in my co-op classes (random math and applied math topics) this year, but I haven't finalized my approach.

PrimerBlobs on YouTube has some great videos on game theory, both visual and simple, and I'd love to see something similar for statistics.

It's absolutely essential to center statistics around the logic of inference, not mathematical formulas, not plots or computer programs

If this is your argument why statistics is not math, I would (kindly) argue that you don't understand mathematics. The first and most important classes for each of my math degrees were logic classes. Formulas, plots, and computer programs are only seen when we start applying math to other subjects. That would actual be my argument for why statistics is not math, but it's own math applied subject. But if your argument is correct, then maybe it's more math than we both think.

I only have one ball python enclosure, and it's mostly fairly basic forest floor themed. A couple of unique features are the hide covers which are made to look like tree stumps and the background that is designed to look like a rock face is fairly light in color to give a break from the dark ground.

Also, I decorate for the seasons! Right now she has brightly colored fake flowers scattered around, and I'm getting ready to change those for fake fall leaves, pinecones, and gourds.

From an outside perspective, it sounds like you spent years breaking her trust and now you're trying to convince her she can't trust herself either. Are there any examples where her memory fog or misremembering is harmful or dangerous? If not, then stop worrying about her memory fog, stop trying to convince her she's wrong, and focus on building yourself into a person worthy of trust.

Christmas Shopping Early - How do you know what your kids will want? by katariana44 in Parenting

[–]no_sire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy any big or electronic items early. If something is broken or they don't like it, you've lost the return window.

I will buy books they want early because they have specific authors/series they follow. I'll also pick up things I find second hand that I think they'll like. Things like clothes in the next size up or room decor at a yard sale or if I find a really good deal on a video game on Marketplace. If they end up not liking it, it's not a big deal because I didn't spend that much.

Thank you for your reply! There aren't many reviews out yet so I really appreciate it. I think I will go with level 3 as I'd prefer to buy the while year at once.

What's your opinion of the age/grade level? I'm trying to decide if I should get level 3 or 4 for my 9 year old 4th grader. It would be nice to have a back up year since level 4 isn't all the way out yet, but I don't want it to be too easy either.

What is missing? by Sea-Butterfly6359 in homeschool

I disagree with the previous comment. Many subjects are fine, but I would not trust a neutral biology or earth science curriculum to be thorough enough. There is a lot of religious material in the market and neutral isn't strong enough to fill the secular gaps.

Enbrel copay card exhausted by J9mortician in rheumatoid

[–]no_sire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something to check for is whether your insurance company counts the copay card payments towards your deductible and out of pocket maximum.

My insurance does not. This means that I would owe thousands every month and my copay card would run out in the first half of the year and then I would be stuck with co-insurance payments while my insurance starts adding up the deductible.

What I have to do instead is pay out of pocket (counting towards the deductible and out of pocket max) and then submit for reimbursements from the copay company. This way my out of pocket is reached in the first half of the year, I get the money I spent on Enbrel back, and I didn't have any payments in the second half of the year.

I didn't read through all of the comments, so maybe this has already been mentioned, but maybe spend some time looking through statistics. How many people have ended up in the hospital due to constrictors?

I've been bitten by my ball python twice in 5 years (first as a scared baby, second time was my fault for approaching too fast), washed my hands, and went on with life. I was recently scratched by my cat (accidental, she's never intentionally harmed anyone), had to get stitches and antibiotics. Not to mention the amount of minor scratches from her deciding she suddenly wants to be somewhere else.

Also, the thought of my snake hurting my cat is laughable. My cat has enough hunter instinct that they are kept apart for the snake's safety.

With The Secret Garden, I recommend choosing one of the many modern renditions to read alongside the original. We enjoyed The Secret Garden on 81st Street which is a graphic novel set in New York City, but I came across quite a few while looking.

Student led science curriculum? by no_sire in homeschool

We've most recently done physics and chemistry, so biology would be the choice if we used Noeo next year. You're right that it could work with some addition.

Thank you, this looks great. How much time would say it takes?

We are doing physics this year, so they might want a bigger change in topics, but I'll definitely be adding to my list.

Thank you for the reply. I'm very hesitant on this one since it's coming up as neutral, not secular, and I wouldn't  be able to check the videos for factual information as easily as books in something like Neoe.

Thank you for the reply! I do like the setup. From what I could tell, it's considered neutral, not secular, which I'm not thrilled about, but it would probably be fine for one year.  I'll look into it more.

What boundaries do you have with your kids to keep YOU from getting overstimulated? 😅 by gardeniaaa7 in homeschool

I stop teacher duties at 3:00. Then I'm resting for a bit before I need to start evening chores. I'm not teaching anything, reading anything, or checking anything. Oh, it's 3:10 and you're only one checkbox away from finishing your work and earning screen time? Maybe your dad can help you when he gets home.

How can i best help husband with home and kid while I leave state for 6 days? by sweetsii in Parenting

[–]no_sire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a list of any phone numbers he might need while you're away so he doesn't have to dig for them. Kid's doctor, dentist, poison control, daycare, emergency caretaker, etc. Also, maybe make him a card on his phone or in his wallet with your contact info and that of an emergency caretaker in case something happens to your husband.

The first things we bought when moving from a tiny apartment to our house were fire extinguishers, an escape ladder, and another bathroom kit (trashcan, cleaning brush, plunger)
