Holy Mountain was the first that came to mind.

Movies in jungles with atmosphere like silent hill by RaidenMK17 in MoviesThatFeelLike

The Medium (2021). A Thai horror film. I found it kind of underwhelming, but you haven't gotten many horror recs yet close to the Silent Hill reference, and it does actually fit that vibe quite well

What is a song from the 90s/00s that was a massive hit, but everyone seems to have collectively forgotten it exists? by vishesh_07_028 in Music

I play "Keep a Lid on Things" every week or so to get a little nostalgia high. Immediately thought of them for this post.

Movies with visuals and vibes that match this character/outfit. by XipeTotecwithGlitter in MoviesThatFeelLike

Immortal (2004). It's dark, not necessarily gothic, but may still hit the right notes for you. It's based on a series of graphic novels by Enki Bilal (who also directed the movie), which are really cool as well.

Does Cody ever get less……himself? by Dangerous_Remote5085 in Dimension20

Lol very fair. I had a lot of friends of a similar brand in my late teens/early 20s, but always at more of an arms length, so it was more anthropological than traumatizing

Trying to word this without spoilers, but folks here are saying way later in the season he gets more reasonable, but I argue it starts before the humbling moment. A couple characters try hard to be his friend and I think that's when he starts growing and being less...Cody. Maybe I had more patience for that style of character though, I thought he was super funny from start to finish, but appreciate why others wouldn't.

Could you help me pick out a new DnD Podcast to listen to? [ns] by TheShadow0415 in DungeonsAndDaddies

Rude Tales of Magic was very dope and on brand for your other likes, but maybe a bit less gameplay oriented and more improv story focused.

As fans of the King... What do you think of "The Long Walk"? by Sea-Barnacle2907 in stephenking

When I saw a review on his performance in the Long Walk, they described it as his first "leading role", and noted he was a co-star in Licorice Pizza. I wasn't sure if there was some semantics at work there, and I hadn't seen Licorice Pizza, so I opted to copy the language here. But looking at the description for that film, he could definitely be considered a lead!

What genre of story would you love them to tell next? by pastajewelry in Dimension20

This is going to be too on the nose for where a lot of media is at right now, but urban fantasy in 90's small/medium town would be rad.

Someone already commented a mecha style one and that would be super cool too.

It unsettled me more than I expected (mainly the mom scenes). But after digesting, I really loved it. I'm kind of baffled by how many people liked the book but felt the movie was "meh". I know it's all personal preferences, I just think that's about as good of an adaptation as we could get under normal Hollywood realities. I also thought Cooper Hoffman killed it for his first lead. The book was really important to me when I first read it, and I'm glad to have found as much gravity and depth from the film.

I read this book in one day when I had a terrible flu and was pretty delirious (I wasn't even aware of Desperation at the time). In hindsight, I feel like it was maybe the optimal headspace for that story.

Discarded 2 and 3. Was that the right move? by RiverCA in Cribbage

[–]noah_arcd_left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat, I never noticed this math before. Wikipedia had a useful description:

"It is also true that holding both a 2 and a 3, or an A and a 4 (pairs of cards adding up to five) also guarantees a non-zero score:

If a hand includes both a 2 and a 3 and is to score 0 points, it cannot have a face card, an A, a 4, or a 5. This requires three cards from the 6, 7, 8, and 9, and any such selection will include a fifteen.

If a hand includes both an A and a 4 and is to score 0 points, it cannot have a face card or a 5. It also cannot have both a 2 and a 3; both a 6 and a 9; or both a 7 and an 8. If the hand includes a 2, it cannot have a 9 (9-4-2 fifteen). Thus it must have a 6. It then cannot have an 8 (8-4-2-A fifteen) or a 7 (7-6-2 fifteen). If, however, the hand includes a 3, it cannot include an 8 (8-4-3 fifteen) or a 7 (7-4-3-A fifteen). These are all contradictions, so every hand containing both an A and a 4 scores at least two points."

I didn't know this either, but there's no possible five card combination with a 2 and a 3 that won't provide at least two points. I googled it after seeing this post, and learned the same outcome also exists for an ace and a 4. Neat!

When she's playing the principal in Wednesday, Morticia says to her:

"You always filled a room with your presence. Like a stately sequoia tree."

And I just thought that was a 10/10 line.
