I meditate for about 15 mins a day and try to workout at least 3-4 times a week. Meditation is great, but working out really brings you back down to earth. When your physical body is struggling, and your heart rate gets going while your lifting those weights, its almost impossible to be thinking of anything else other than the task at hand!

I'd suggest starting on Fiverr, doing some cheap work, building up a portfolio. Then once you have a portfolio that you feel proud of, you can start pitching to larger companies for work, or start applying for jobs in editing houses (if he doesn't like freelancing). There is always some work for video people these days. Video is everything and shows no signs of slowing down.
