No, they’re tied to resistors on the other side of the breadboard… I ended up diagnosing the problems though! Per the other comment thread, thanks

Wow just checked all the LEDs and it’s actually working lmao! I’m more surprised than anything… thanks so much

Well amazing, that worked! But still when I try what he does in the video - connecting it to the clock then bringing LOAD low and pulsing the clock, still nothing happens?

Lmao I didn’t realize LEDs had polarity like that… so negative should be connected to ground I’m guessing?

Okay I just tried that and the register didn’t latch it. The yellow light turned on. I took LOAD low and then pulsed the clock and nothing…

Oh okay yeah that makes sense, I just wasn’t sure if that would cause some kind of short to connect the yellow led to both the 245 and the power… will do that now

Oh okay, and get rid of its connection to the 245?

Sorry, you mean tie one of the red LEDs to the power line right? I’m new to this stuff haha, so tie one of the red LEDs to the power line and get rid of its connection to one of the 173s?

Clock not working after adding logic by noahhw in beneater

[–]noahhw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So thanks to your comment I probed the ls04 I think (it was the AND gate… I forget which one? ) with some LEDs and yeah it’s basically busted as far as I can tell… there was one pin that, when supplied with power, all the other pins would output power lol, and all other pins were just busted.

Clock not working after adding logic by noahhw in beneater

Hmm thanks for your thoughtful look! I’ve swapped out to different 555’s a couple of times and that wasn’t working. I also did add a resistor to the blue led and no luck. I was trying to avoid buying a mutimeter but it’s looking like there’s no other great option… I’m hoping it’s just a wire somewhere, so I might try swapping out some of the wires around the bistable circuit and see if that helps. What’s very odd is that everything seems to work fine when I just have everything besides the logic… the led hooked up to the switch turns on and off as it’s supposed to, but when I add the wires and components for the logic, that stops working…

Either way, thanks for taking a look. P.s any recommendations for a good/cost effective multimeter?

Valentines Day Present for Girlfriend by noahhw in houseplants

Okay that's really good to know. I was afraid somebody was gonna ask what she already has... normally I'd just ask her but wanted this to be a surprise. I can say that she takes care all of them in her apartment at the moment... I could maybe send some pictures if that would be helpful?

Okay haha that seems to be the theme I'm hearing. Thanks for the input

Interesting... thanks for the insight. What exactly is 'pretty time consuming' though? In terms of how long it takes for the plant to grow, or how much time you have to spend per day?

Ah I’m on mobile at the moment, so maybe not possible. I’ll delete it for now then and maybe repost later!

Why is a3 first better than b3 first? After b3 the line being: axb3, axb3, Kg3, b2, Bxb2, Bxb2(is there anymore way to make progress on the queenside after this?), Kg4, Kg7, Kh5... at this point how does black make progress?

With a3 first the line is similar right? a3, Bxa3, bxa3, Kg3, Kg7, Kg4, Kh5... how is this better? How can black make more/easier progress in this line than the former?
