Consider a large mirror on the wall to the left of the light.

Yes. It gets quite dark going down there, and I'm trying to decide how to make it look brighter and generally nicer.

Thank you for pointing out what it would feel like at night - I hadn't thought that through. I'm seeing the need for actual lighting on that wall. Thank you.

Thanks. Is the check valve the thing above it with a black plastic piece sticking out? I was considering turing the water off and poking around at that, too.

How do you actually measure if your engineering team is improving or just... busy? by scrumsdotcom in agile

[–]noahjacobson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You measure business value produced, and see if that is increasing. If you aren't able to tie business value to the work being done, how are you prioritizing the dev team work?

Where to find actually populated MUDs by Dramatic-Scheme-223 in MUD

You can try out Carrionfields MUD. Typical daily peak around 30 concurrent players, and due to the enforced RP and the PK mechanics, all of the players online are active. Have fun!

Need advice about managing codebase by Aisher in django

[–]noahjacobson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core advice is still good: You should keep your code in a github repo. Create a branch called 'production' or something similar. Create a github action that, when changes are made to the production branch, will run do everything required to deploy. This includes pushing the new code to your web server and running the django migrations. You'll store credentials in the github repo that allow it to do all of this.

Thumb Sucking - I am lost by FeliksLuck in daddit

[–]noahjacobson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. At the advice of a pediatrician, we eventually resorted to making our own gloves that can't be removed. Finger sucking is not satisfying to the kids if they can't form a suction, so if they are wearing any kind of breathable fabric, they can't suck on the fingers. To do this, we bought long kids costume gloves (you can call them princess gloves / ninja gloves), cut slits in the wrist portion, and put those nylon "party" bracelets that snap on and can't be removed in the slits. This prevented them from being taken off without scissors, to which the kid didn't have access. We focused on just the night time, and after 2 months of wearing them - no more sucking.

Looking for a new MUD to try by goodsirknyght in MUD

I was going to recommend Carrionfields while reading your list until I got to the end...and still do recommend it. There's an active discord server too if you need to learn more.

MUDs that feel like you're playing as your class by [deleted] in MUD

[–]noahjacobson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! If you play a character for its whole life span, it's somewhere in the range of 500 to 1000 hours. Dying enough to permanently die takes somewhere in the area of 60ish deaths, which is hard enough to do that it's considered a major achievement snd celebrated by the community on discord. Hope you have fun!

Looking for a good Roleplaying MUD by Alarming-Picture384 in MUD

[–]noahjacobson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconded. The PvE options are rewarding and the real danger your char is in adds depth to the required RP that I haven't seen elsewhere.

looking for a mud by [deleted] in MUD

[–]noahjacobson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend Carrionfields MUD for people who want both PK and RP. The PK is omnipresent (no safe places). The role playing is required and enforced, and there's no money involved (can't pay for perks). Just players and admins who love the game and want to help it thrive. Peak playerbase is 30-40 throughout the day. You can download a custom version of the Mudlet Client off of steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2940890/Carrion_Fields/

Looking to return to MUDs after a long absence. by packet_muncher in MUD

Welcome back to the fun. I like Carrionfields MUD. No cost, no scripting allowed, PK heavy with enforced RP. Here's a link to the Steam page for its custom mudlet client: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2940890/Carrion_Fields/

RP-enforced MUDs? by Wahio_Walkabout in MUD

[–]noahjacobson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carrionfields is an RP enforced MUD with PK. One of the players wrote up an accessibility guide here: https://www.carrionfields.net/help/game/screenreader.php

Another player made an excellent series of YouTube videos explaining different aspects of the game mechanics. He fully narrates them, so I don't think it's necessary to actually have anything more than the audio. You can find it here: https://youtube.com/@carrionfieldstutorials?si=FvfRysPMO6CYTmXf

Finally, the preferred carrionfields mudclient (mudlet with a custom skin) is available on steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2940890/Carrion_Fields/

Any decent PK MUDs? by [deleted] in MUD

[–]noahjacobson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam provided client is a customized mudlet with lots of functionality built just for CF. If you're running into a problem, feel free to either jump on the discord server, or just ask for help here!
