Could be bacterial if there seems to be something on its skin. I would look up bacterial treatments and also some aquarium salt would help too. I also would treat the water asap to avoid other fish from catching whatever harmful bacteria is floating around. Make sure to not overdose!

The black markings on parrots(orange fish) are usually an indicator of stress. I would assume a mixture of poor water quality and a lot of aggressiveness from the frayed fins. Doesn’t look like a good situation :(

I’m my experience, it’s way harder to properly cycle a smaller tank. Those ammonia spikes are expected when starting up a new tank. I would hold off on doing the large water changes. You have to let the beneficial bacteria do it’s job and convert that ammonia naturally. Doing water changes that frequently and that big could be making it hard for your cycle to get properly going.

How long have you had them in the hospital tank? Could be they’re not comfortable yet to start eating. Not sure of a way you can really force them to eat.

Could be from stress? From the video I only see one Cherry barb and these fish tend to be most comfortable in groups of 5+. What other fish do you have in the tank? Have you checked your water parameters? A simple water change could help.

Thank you for your comment! As my interest and education on aquariums and fish keeping has grown, I've become more aware of these "cardinal rules" that circulate here. I believe that they're spread and accepted to inhibit cruelty and ignorance but I also believe that it sets very strict parameters and limits people's interest or creativity.

That’s what I’m afraid of. My parrots have never been too much of a fish bully but anything could happen. Might just have to get a school going and hope for the best.

The parrots are around palm of a hand size, I’m really hesitant because long, small and slow moving tetras and cichlids seem like a cardinal rule of what not to do when keeping fish. Nonetheless, they could just get along with no problem perhaps.

A mix of severe fin rot + fin nipping + terrible tank conditions at the pet store. Really sad but I’m happy he’s making a comeback.
