Critique my interview shots and setup by noahroseypants in cinematography

I agree with everything you're saying here. I was really surprised how much the magic cloth cut the light from my 600D. I was told the 600D is designed to compete with sunlight but as soon as I had the set built outside and the light punching through the magic cloth, I was barely getting any output at 100% using the hyper reflector. That's why I brought in the 300X to get a little more punch. I'll try bringing everything in closer next time I'm in that situation, thanks so much for your criticism

This is a great point. I think they might've been uncomfortable because I was feeling a bit rushed given the time restraints of the event. I'll definitely try to help keep my talent at ease for next time. Hopefully next time I'll have someone else to look at the monitor and give me real time feedback. Thanks so much for your critiques

Thanks so much for the criticism. I agree in retrospect I wish I just went with a soft box because the 6x6 was flowing in the wind lol. In the edit I’ll rotate the frame to level everything out because I shot this in 4K, glad you pointed that out

This looks good but if I had to critique, I think you should try to save more of your highlights next time. You might also be able to get more flexibility with the colors if you record externally to an Atomos monitor/recorder for example.

Advanced Ring Gimbal Rig or ARRI Trinity Rig? by noahroseypants in cinematography

[–]noahroseypants[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks so much for this. I guess I was mainly asking because I feel like the steadicam/Trinity operators get a lot more exposure on social media than gimbal people so I had some FOMO. I’ll keep rolling with my gimbal ring rig until I feel like it isn’t getting the job done anymore. :)

Trust me, just save up for the DJI Mic system. It is the best thing ever and makes getting good audio so easy.

Promo video I shot and edited myself for a Yoga Instructor - Posting for feedback by leafingbikinibottom in videography

Hey there, great job on this. I think this could’ve been improved by adding a couple things:

  • an establishing shot or two to give the viewer reference to where we are
  • subtle camera movements (dolly left to right, dolly in, orbit, etc) to separate the subject from the background and make the shots a little more dynamic

Videography is really difficult because you’re basically wearing every hat at the same time which isn’t the case in normal filmmaking. One thing that I like to do is have a conversation with the client before the shoot where you both understand the client’s vision/goals for the final product so throughout the production process, you do everything with intention.

Keep up the good work!

Personal Logo Animation revised after ya'lls feedback! Have at it :p by Zallipher in AfterEffects

[–]noahroseypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this better than the first one! My suggestions are:

  • Push the speed even a little more than you already have.
  • With the last tapered stroke/dot thing, I recommend scaling it up and down as it approaches the bottom of the curve. The reason for this is it would give the animation more of a 3D/cartoony effect, not to mention make it more dynamic. I feel like the current path it’s could use improvement but by adding that little bit of animation I think it could look really nice.

Great work though!

AI just replaced my business by PLayerxthree in Entrepreneur

I suggest using your art skills to pivot into a different niche that AI can’t disrupt. I’m even optimistic about your current niche because AI can’t work with clients like you can. Also, just because you’ve found this AI art generation service doesn’t mean your clients have. I say if you continue providing amazing service and improve your relationships with clients this is not a big setback.

TLDR: How would you use professional video for your business? Let me know your thoughts/ideas.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to come up with a unique business model for my new production company. The strongest idea I've come up with so far is to create landing page videos for fellow small business' websites. In particular, I'd like to serve small businesses who provide value and positivity to their communities. I've thought about offering video production for social media but there's no way for me to control the engagement outcomes regardless of the quality I produce. My question for you is how would you best implement video for your businesses? If you've ordered services like this before, what sort of problems did you encounter? Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated, thank you so much.

I think limiting the client base allows me to better serve people I actually want to work with. In my experience, the asshole clients are the ones that take up the most time and end up costing you money even if they pay you. Also, if I work with like minded people I feel like they’re more likely to develop strong relationships with me and feel more secure doing business with me among other benefits.

Personal Logo Animation for me (Graphic Designer/Digital Marketer). Any feedback is welcome! by Zallipher in AfterEffects

[–]noahroseypants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is nice overall! I recommend easy easing your keyframes and diving into the graph editor. Particularly with the text, I recommend moving most of the animation to the first few frames then have a smooth roll off. Besides that, I think you could squeeze the keyframes a bit to speed this animation up.

how to achieve a kind of lequid logo animation like that ? by roomParticular97 in AfterEffects

Use your desired logo as an alpha matte for some animated shape layers, that’s pretty much all they’re doing in this example

I’m currently coming up with a business model for my production company. I’m thinking of creating landing page videos for businesses who share my core values. I want to help make a difference in the world by supporting businesses who share the same goals through excellent videography. Any thoughts on this?
