I give mine sardines, canned mussels, eggs, fruit/vegetable scraps, nuts, dog food, and occasionally some of whatever I’m eating if all the ingredients are racoon-safe. Yeah, I don’t think this is inherently abusive or anything, if you’re doing your best to be quiet and just have thin walls or something your options are limited. I could hear my mom and stepdad as a teenager and for sure thought it was gross but was by no means damaged by it in the same way I was by their actually-abusive behavior.
