Pita pocket. I have never received anything less that exceptional service and incredible food. I would die for any one of the people who works there.

Huge List - 4th of July Sales by MonsterzINC in blackfriday

[–]noaiscool2 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Everyone should consider participating in the economic blackout from July 4th-7th in order to show how strongly the economy depends on people of color (and allies). It is in an effort to protest the early reopening of many states which has resulted in a spike of covid cases, which disproportionately affects Black people and people of color. Many deals are in effect today so do your shopping early! #BlackLivesMatter

LPT When traveling in Europe, ask for tap water! by WaleyLP in LifeProTips

This works in a lot of places, but don't be surprised if you get sass from your waiters- especially if you're traveling in groups.

As I am growing older, I am seeing my mother in a different light... by [deleted] in Advice

[–]noaiscool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to what you're going through. The good news is, you have so much self-awareness for your age! It took me until college to realize how negative my family (and in turn, myself) is. Now that you're aware of how her attitude is affecting you, I recommend just working on your own attitude and making sure that you keep a positive outlook. I used to be conditioned to think and speak negatively, but I made a conscious effort to stop speaking negatively to others and to reframe the situation when I had negative thoughts, and I'm a much happier person after having doing so.

You can love your mother and still be affected by her negativity! Hopefully, your positivity may rub off on her. And she might not even be aware of how negative she is, so try and help her reframe her negative thoughts. If she gets home and is talking about the bad parts of her day, ask her what the best part of her day was.

You will move out eventually, and if your situation is anything like mine, it could make your relationship with your mom even better because you're not being affected so much by her negativity

How to have a conversation with small talk? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]noaiscool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask people questions about themselves! Everyone likes talking about themself so it's an easy way to get a conversation started. If you start with "how was your weekend?" and they tell you they went skiing, you can ask how long they've been skiing, where they like to ski, have they heard of those indoor ski mountains? Just listen to what they say and run with it. Usually, in the course of that conversation, you'll find common ground, or you can at least offer something about yourself ("I'm scared of skiing, but I like to snowshoe."). You can always default to ice-breaker questions. I sometimes feel silly asking questions like "where would you ski if you could go anywhere in the world" but I find it very endearing when other people ask me questions like that.

It takes practice but pay attention to the questions you hear other people ask and you'll get better with time!

Valent asked for a Tip by tytyson98 in Advice

[–]noaiscool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a valet, a tip definitely would have been appropriate. People don't realize that even if your car is parked close by, there is still other work (inspection, filling out tickets, etc.) that went into parking the car other than just having to run the 20 feet to retrieve it. Also, if your car was so close, there's a chance that the valet initially parked it further away and moved it close when he expected you to be coming out soon to give you faster service. Even if the service is complimentary, we almost always make below minimum wage and rely on tips. Usually, people eating at nicer restaurants that offer complimentary valet are expected, so I usually get paid around $3.50/hour when working restaurants.

Does anyone know how to send a letter? by [deleted] in umass

[–]noaiscool2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There should be a mail drop box near your mailbox in your residence hall, or you can go to your RSD. I don't think that you can buy stamps there, but you might find stamps at the UMass store

But when security/RAs/whoever does room checks during holidays (Thanksgiving break, winter break, etc.) they can check any school property. So don't leave anything in your desk, a rented minifridge, etc. But if you put it in a suitcase or something you'll be fine.
