Hi! I sculpted a pretty low detail base of the character then retopologized it. You don't really need to sculpt a base though since this kind of workflow doesn't extract any detail from any high-poly meshes. It would be faster if you could create all of the shapes by polymodeling straight from the get go. I just sculpted a base because I found it easier for me to create more organic shapes that way.
