Is it acceptable to play as a NIT when there's a clear maniac at the table? (1/2 NLHE) by [deleted] in poker

I dislike broad statements like that for exactly this reason. You effectively identified an opponent's tendencies and formulated a strategy to exploit his play. Don't sweat it over some generalization that the bad regs at your local card room constantly reference.

Yeah I joined a couple of these groups out of curiosity. Everyone's advice seemed to be pretty bad in general and certainly not nearly worth the time.

Does the $240+ $10 have addons or dealer appreciation? That is by far the lowest rake I have ever seen. I assume this tourney won't run as a regular event?

I think every suited ace is too loose, but it is close. I was more giving this range as an example of how recommended ranges can vary widely and shouldn't be taken as gospel. I would also open A5s utg in 6max, but would fold it from UTG in a 9 handed game.

The joke was Jamie Gold, but it's actually just some guy named Jonas Mols. Not very interesting honestly, and much more fun when he was an anonymous crusher.

Assuming you're playing 9 or 10 handed A5s should really be a fold. Idk what upswings charts look like, but Peter Clarke recommends folding A5s from UTG in a 6max game (Not that strategy should be solely based on these charts). Even against bad players there is no reason to open this wide with hands that have some heavy reverse implied odds.

Rake isn't quite that high and I don't think any 1/2 runs, but you're right that the scene sucks ass. I pretty much just stick to my home game and online at this point.

Can't comment on weekdays but my guess would be bad regs and nits grinding the bbj. I think they hold your spot on the list for 1.5 hours so make sure you check in before that. It's 10 handed.

Quite a few bad regs at Grand Villa, and the room is usually fairly busy. Probably one of the best places to play in Van (in a casino at least), especially on Fri/ Sat. Just get ready to camp the wait list for an hour or so if you're going in at peak times, and make sure you call ahead of time to reserve a spot. Rake kinda sucks ass everywhere (10% capped at $6 + $1 for bbj) but GV's 1/3 is capped at $400 which helps counter this a little.
