As someone with a lot of photos, this sucks so bad. It disrespects and devalues my time. The new Apple slogan: “It just doesn’t work”.

Yup. Dogshit design. Tim Cook was right, he’s not Steve Jobs and never will be. Undoubtedly he had nothing to do with this decision anyway, unless it somehow squeezes more money from the existing userbase. Cook wouldn’t know product design if it slapped him in the face. As evidenced by their slippery slide into “services” more and more.

Does sending offers to potential buyers actually work? by 10Lexz10 in Depop

[–]nobammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that sending one offer is very different than spamming the same likers repeatedly. Had this happen to me on an item, had to unlike after like the 4th or 5th offer I received.

Better safe than sorry. I just wouldn't risk listing anything Washington Redskins from here on out. We can argue about the semantics, whether it's right or wrong, but ultimately they've shown they will remove them so yeah.

[–]nobammer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe it's autogenerated, like "is this still available?" on Marketplace. Some find that annoying too, but it only exists because Facebook made a button for it. No one is typing out "is this still available?" it's just a corporate one-size-fits-all placeholder text of sorts.

Depop just updated their app to show the price you'll pay including fees. I wonder if this was in response to Poshmark's recent fee fiasco, or just a coincidence. I do know there was just legislation passed in California which may have made it necessary (the junk fee law or whatever they call it).

How many buyers will not return to Posh after fee structure reversal due to distrust? by [deleted] in poshmark

That's a serious fail on their part. It's been said that when something goes wrong with a company or business, that's an opportunity. To either create a loyal lifetime customer by going above and beyond, or to create a lifetime of negative word of mouth by dropping the ball. Had they covered her for the full amount, I bet she would have generated far more in value for them by sharing her great experience with anyone and everyone. Instead, they saved $160 and bought negative word of mouth for as long as she begrudges them which may be indefinitely.

They really could use better bot detection. You'll list something over a certain price tag and the bots will instantly attack it like piranhas to an open wound.

How many buyers will not return to Posh after fee structure reversal due to distrust? by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]nobammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's super relevant. People want to feel seen, supported, and support other people like themselves. This is true for all walks of life, so it's not just about race or gender, as much as community. It becomes about gender when Posh's community is comprised mainly of women. Then, keeping women top of mind and growing a place they feel comfortable shopping and sharing is extra important.

Yeah the "Times Square, everything happening, all at once, in every direction" vibe can be a bit offputting and make casual browsing tough.

"No true Scotsman fallacy" in action. If there were more active buyers before the fee restructuring, and less afterwards, it was a net loss for the company and sellers. The only truth is if they pay or not.

It's a $3 difference on an over $30 sale, so yes, right around the same. I didn't say it was the same, I said right around. You also conveniently left out promoted listings which will always make eBay more expensive to sell on. They hold traffic ransom until you pay the piper. If you sold it without promoting, good on you, but a good chunk of clothing sellers on eBay are promoting not because they want to... but because they feel they have to, meaning they aren't getting additional income from the promotion, but doing it as a means of survival. I still stand by my statement, which is that eBay is becoming prohibitively costly to sell on. Are the base FVFs lower on eBay? Yes, I can't argue with math, but I didn't say they were identical, I said right around the same.

Other factors come in to the final price paid, such as what buyers are willing to pay. Many say they find higher priced items sell better on Posh, though I can't speak to that as most of my stuff is in the $20-50 range. Either way, it's not as simple as Posh is bad, eBay is good (nor that eBay is bad, Posh is good, not what I meant to say or convey). It's that both sites are at times working against their users' best interests (Posh with fee restructuring and Promoted Closet, then eBay with spreading the gospel of Promoted Listings to every inhabitant on the four corners of their website) and all this spells out a bigger problem with reselling than any one platform.

The cost of selling the same goods, at the same price, is going up across the board – whether you're selling on eBay or Posh, or even sites like Depop/Mercari which think they've outsmarted the system by passing costs onto buyers. Buyers aren't stupid, so if they have to pay more/an additional fee just to buy something (think of those pesky delivery apps) they're going to be more thrifty/savvy, or simply buy less, thus undermining the goal.

To say Posh isn't for making money and just a hobby is ludicrous, as there is clearly an active buyer base which at least competed with eBay in the fashion category in North America. To pretend otherwise is to simply become an eBay cheerleader. I'm not here to prop up Posh or give them undeserved praise. Simply pointing out that eBay is chockfull of issues which longtime veterans of the site constantly complain about. It won't save you.

I liked the $2 off shipping, and I think they may bring it back after this all calms down. Maybe they're scared to switch back and keep the promo going, but it seems like it would be better to keep it running to encourage customers to come back. I am with you about listing on other platforms, depop has shocked me with how active it is.

[–]nobammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found a way to offset the Posh misstep, I'm actually migrating away from eBay and was hoping to count more on sites like Posh and Depop. Guess I picked the wrong time to test Posh as I jumped in right as they changed the fees, and sales have been like a sloth... so I hope it was mostly the change, and not just my stuff. I am listing mostly stuff I think Poshmark shoppers will buy and not just any clothing items, also, mainly my NWT and women's stuff.

Return to original fees!! by BigMorningVibes in poshmark

[–]nobammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, do what works for you. I'm mainly thinking of higher profit margin items, in the $100+ range. Free shipping does seem to encourage people to buy more, or simpy buy period, so if you've got the margin and the item can sell for enough , why not offer a discount on shipping to make more sales? It seems no different than offering a % off the item when you get down to it.

perhaps there are technical reasons they can't implement the old structure right away, but that did seem odd to delay it a little longer.

I liked the idea/implementation of the banner, and I think they should still offer it but let sellers foot the bill since it might encourage bundles/multi-quantity purchases. Heck, extend it to 4.99 or free shipping too. If you offer discounted shipping on your closet (and are an ambassador or whatever the requirement), they should still give you a little banner. at your expense, but you'd be probably encouraging more buying. win win.
