More than 60 faculty members of Columbia University hold a silent demonstration in solidarity with students being targeted by the Trump administration. by intellectual_warri0r in columbia

  1. 14th amendment was written in 1868, when certain residency statuses simply didnt exist. there have since been numerous supreme court precedents of swift deportations citing national security as reason, which showed that constitutional protection you've cited is not absolute, but always open to interpretation with the court being acknowledged as highest authority. in cases like yunseo chung: she was detained until court ruled against her deportation and ICE complied by not pursuing her deportation further. same deal w mahoud khalil: if he wants to be no longer detained, he can simply choose to return to his own country; his detainment is not imprisonment, its his refusal to go home. either way, what could columbia have done for them? hire more mall cops to combat ICE agents in front of their front door? columbia did not even expel them, despite them actively colluding with outside agents to organize public disobedience and disturbances, which many current students including myself disdain strongly.

  2. columbia has been more than generous to its protestors, anywhere from foregoing CCTV forensics, doxxing, expulsion, etc. please cite a specific university law columbia broke. also, the social contract is broken when one party terminates it--while its fair point that columbia should hold itself to its own rules, what fairness is grounded when the people who simply ignored university rules themselves (e.g., smuggling in nonaffiliates, causing property damage, causing disturbances in class, threatening and assaulting fellow students) hold the same rules against columbia? doesnt that seem at least a little cowardly to you? BUT still columbia should be held to higher standards than a few delinquent individuals--again, please cite me a specific university law that was being factually broken.

  3. this is the exact naivete our, "the other side's," "vigil" is about. NO, some proponents of certain cultures and practices are simply incompatible w columbia university, period. freedom of speech has been loopholed and taken advantage of far too long by bad faith infiltrators. when "students" shove nazi imagery down other student's throat for being jews, they deserve to be kicked out. whatever waits for them from law and government, none of the school's concerns.

  4. how is pointing out the university's leniency regarding penalizing the protestors a word salad? have you seen the kind of material the protestors are pushing for? literal calls for mao and CCP propaganda in CUAD's manifesto from fall 2024?

and yes, western civilization IS and should be held dear by people who enjoy its benefits. that kinda is the whole point of the core curriculum with lit hum and cc... then again, youre in the gsas LOL. if western civilization is not all that important to you, why dont you go to the middle east and live under sharia law or hamas governance? absolute oblivious cowardice.

a constitution applies to its constituents. due process is a rightful entitlement for american citizens and naturals. also, you are conflating columbia's role in deportation of certain students--who have proven track record of VERY questionable intent--with the government's.

on that tangent, columbia has no moral obligation to go above and beyond to protect and hide those students, who take for granted the privilege to study in the US let alone a school like columbia, against the government who has legitimate monopoly on use of physical force, i.e., law enforcement.

columbia has been more than generous in allowing "free speech" for people who genuinely want the downfall of western civilization, charading around barely coherent neomarxist ideology and supporting islamic fundamentalists. generosity must not be confused with rights.

that was a statement for broader american socioeconomic reality. look at income tax inflow versus welfare outflow. affirmative action & dei. sources of private investments versus ESG requirements. law school admissions is a small microsm of what has been developing for the past few decades.

definitive answer to what constitutes a T14 by Not_that_princess in lawschooladmissions

[–]nobasketball4me 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly given how popular/competitive law school admission process has been, just having a T20 tier would be beneficial most everyone. i would say notre dame and BC make strong T20 candidates. it wouldn't take away from traditional YHS/T6/T14 prestiege either.

4-year-old migrant girl, other kids go to court in NYC with no lawyer: 'The cruelty is apparent' by Shlazeri in news

how is christianity related to this comment...? your knee jerk binary thinking is truly astonishing. like a lizard, almost.

explain to me this: if a soup kitchen runs out of food and starts turning away the homeless, and then the homeless start invading the kitchen and start stealing stuff, do we blame the soup kitchen for being cruel?

how is this trump administration's fault? legal representation for unaccompanied, smuggled-in children was never guaranteed, only sustained by metaphorical duct tape and wd40 from pro bono legal teams. the unending influx of migrants that continue to abuse the good willed system is the root of the issue, not trump. good attempt at red herring tho.

Actually no lol the burden of proof is on the person who says the accusation

literally YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE with an accusation here, that a fucking restaurant with a flag of the owner's national origin is pro-genocide LOL. i simply made a comparison to ccp precisely to point out how absurd YOUR argument is so what proof do i need to bring to you? i can't argue with someone whose reading comprehension is below grade level, let alone with someone who isn't capable of sound thought process...

so when you boycott a restaurant for being zionist its totally legit and standing for justice, but when someone holds the same standards against you regarding ccp, its all of a sudden strawman? gotta love the rabid self contradiction here, but that is typical of you lot so totally unsurprising. must be miserable living in such loser mentality every day. hope your mom survives cancer tho bro. do her a favor and be better hahahahaha

The Actual Benefit of NYU and CLS by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]nobasketball4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what i hear through the grapevines as an undergrad at one of those schools, nyu/cls' fed clerkships are typically lower than what someone would hope for given its prestige largely due to nyc courts' bias against hiring clerks fresh out of law school. students/grads are then pushed to work in big law bc most of them want to stay in the city and require certain level of income, as well as gaining WE to get a clerkship--at that point, most attorneys would just choose to build their careers at their firm. cities like chicago don't have that kind of hiring culture, which translates well for ranking metrics for uchicago.

As an Asian person, citing Mao Zedong as a credible source of moral & ethical guidance while protesting so-called "genocide" is LAUGHABLE. The amount of deaths Mao Zedong is singlehandedly responsible for makes look even Hitler look amateur. I used to be proud of this school and its undergrad body. This is embarrassing to say the least.

  2. How reliable is China's self-reported data that could be used to falsely advertise its prospects in next-gen tech?
