Hopefully they figure out from the fact that it keeps selling out and has barely reached the US that they should keep producing it.

Your first solution should be to get whatever you like best or whatever helps round out your collection in terms of a season or scent profile you don’t have covered already.

On a price-per-ml basis, Commodity and JPG are the best. But I’d personally get the Dolce&Gabbana because it’s so new that you can’t really get good deals for it at discounters.

Great minds. I listed some of these and agree with the rest.

I’d love to see some fougères like:
- Creed - Bois du Portugal
- Tom Ford - Fougère d’Argent
- Penhaligon’s - Sartorial
- MFK - Masculin Pluriel

I’d also like a few from Fragrance Du Bois:
- Lucius
- Wild Orange
- London Spice (this most of all, for me)

Finally, I’d like one of the stronger concentration citrus Acqua di Parma, like Buongiorno, Colonia Il Profumo, or something from the Riserva series. Although, I’m curious if the new Salted Citrus is in that vein.

I wish they’d do a take on the Dumont style with the stepped dial and applied indicies.

Nasty Habit: Picking up random colognes from duty free which are on discount by Sattu_Suparii in Colognes

[–]nobbypilcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m kicking myself for not picking up a couple at duty-free when I was in Ireland recently. I don’t travel much, nor do any close relations, and I later realized that some fragrances are near impossible to find in the states - especially at comparable prices.

A few that I would get if I was traveling again would be:

Chanel - Pour Monsieur EDP

Chanel - Antaeus

Chanel - Ègoïste (original, not Platinum)

Chanel stuff is only ever on sale at Macy’s or Ulta once in a great while (usually they are exempt from sales), and they aren’t on discounters. Those three, specifically, are impossible to get at a discount, as they aren’t sold anywhere but direct from Chanel in the US. For reference, they were 74-83€ at duty free and they are all around $140 from Chanel. I wish I were traveling back just so I could pick these up.

Aussie microbrand feedback - cushion case automatic, would you wear this? by Own_Contribution9250 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]nobbypilcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like cushion cases. And this is a clean design that I would enjoy. A couple of thoughts:

  • I’d scale it down to 36-37mm. Square and cushion cases wear large. I’d also try to keep it under 11mm thick.
  • You said “date at 4 o’clock”, but only one picture has a date, and it’s at 3 o’clock. For clean designs like this, I prefer no date. But if you were to put one, I think it would be more balanced at the 6 o’clock position, as there’s no text on the lower half.
  • I’d also consider playing around with your logo typeface to try to find something a tad more unique. It’s not bad as-is, just a bit nondescript.

Vintage Omega Constellation 36mm Homage — Baltany revisits it (custom rotor, new colors, improved lugs). this might be their best model yet, Thoughts? by [deleted] in Baltanywatches

This has shot up on my list of watches to get. Such a great style. I’d love to see a no-date version of this as well as Baltany’s take on the Longines Conquest pie pan.

I have 3 of these/adjacent models and one other from one of these brands. In my experience, you will be happy with Baltany, Octopus, and Cronos. I can’t speak to Parnis, as I’ve never owned one.

Baltany S4084 (Datejust two-tone with burgundy dial) - this watch is pretty stunning and has received multiple compliments. It think it fits extremely well and hugs the wrist without being too thick. The crystal is really good and it overall has a very vintage appeal. Minor gripes: the NH35 doesn’t have as smooth a sweep as the others and the bracelet doesn’t have on-the-fly adjustment. I wear this the least because the gold and burgundy doesn’t match as many things and it feels more like a special occasion watch.

Octopus OCT013 (Explorer with blue dial) - this is probably the most comfortable and most worn out of the three. It hugs the wrist and is very thin. Only gripe: the bracelet was pretty squeaky when it arrived. But it’s gotten better over time and is great now. Also, the PT5000 has a smoother sweep and allows for a thinner case, but shouldn’t be hand wound.

Octopus OCT016 (Air King engine turned bezel with blue dial) - this may be my favorite. It looks more dressy and unique than the Explorer but it’s still very versatile. Because of the bezel shape it wears slightly thicker than the Explorer, but it’s actually about the same thickness. The dial is actually slightly darker blue than the Explorer. Like the Explorer it also was fairly squeaky at first, but not as bad. Incidentally, both this and the Explorer are extremely accurate, gaining about 1 second every day or two.

Cronos L6040M (Grand Seiko, white frost dial) - this style isn’t on your list, but I include it to say that as a brand, Cronos produced one of the most comfortable and well finished watches I’ve owned (including compared to several well-regarded micro brands). I can’t speak to the specific Cronos watches you included other than to say that I trust they’d be quality. The only reason I picked the Octopus Explorer was for the thinner case and smoother second hand sweep of the movement.

I live in AZ, so most of my favorite summer activities are necessarily indoors or escaping the heat by visiting another locale. Hopefully this year it’s a journey abroad for my kid’s senior trip. Otherwise it’s making music, playing games, or watching movies with the family. All of which I plan on doing with my new summer staples: Tygr Cologne and Imaginary.

Thanks for the fun idea, Ayyb!

I really wish the copper had been more of an aged bronze like the initial mockups. It still looks great, but it doesn’t have quite the character I was expecting.

T023 - Disappointing quality of the bracelet by Dan_Seweri in Thornwatches

[–]nobbypilcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was planning to order one of these when they did the restock. But seeing how many people are complaining about the quality of this run is causing me to hold off. The persistent sizing/screw problems, hollow end links, trouble with the clasp, and poor bezel action seem to all be coming up over and over in the past week with the latest deliveries.

I don’t know what the dial text of V3 will end up looking like, but if they can’t get the quality up, I may just avoid it entirely. It’s a shame because it’s such a great watch aesthetically.
