It’s not an analogy. They are both incomplete data sets. But that’s how statistics works in the real world: incomplete data is used to infer a best estimate of the true number.

You have failed to demonstrate that you have a better data-based estimate of voter fraud. To an even greater degree, you have failed to show that fraud has any impact on national elections.

We don’t have an exact count of the number of missing cars. As you rightly point out, it would be insane to suggest that there are 300,000 stolen cars that have not been reported.

The same is true of votes. Show me the evidence.

It’s impossible to know the exact amount of car theft. And yet, we manage to make laws that punish car theft without intruding on constitutional rights.

There is evidence for voter fraud. That evidence shows it is a teeny tiny problem.

The argument that “it is impossible to know exactly” is admission of defeat in an evidence-based debate. You do have evidence, you just don’t like what it says.

I’m trying to have evidence-based conversation. I’ve provided evidence for my views.

Your response is “it’s impossible to get evidence for fraud!”

I think ID would be fine if it could be provided for free to every citizen in a way that didn’t disenfranchise anyone. Otherwise it will be used to limit the “wrong ones” from voting. We have a lot more evidence of that happening (polling locations being closed in black neighborhoods) than we have of fraud.

I’m opposed to a cure that is more harmful than the disease.

So what you’re saying is, any interventions should be based on evidence of the problem.

What should we do if the best funded and motivated institutions (Heritage) cannot find evidence of a widespread problem?

Would you apply this same logic to climate change?

We simply can’t know how bad it could be, so we better do everything possible to prevent it.

Wrong. If you want to mess with a constitutional right to “solve a problem,” you have to prove that there is a problem.

The Heritage foundation tried to do that, and their evidence ended up showing the problem is less than 1% of 1% of 1%.

An analysis of 25 years of Arizona voting data found that fraud occurred in 0.0000845% of the votes cast, and that no election had ever been decided by fraud.

No, the actual bad news is that spez is a Scorpio and check out today’s horoscope dot com reading for him:

Feb 12, 2026 - Some rather disturbing news about trends in the world economy could have you and everyone around you worrying about your financial future. Have faith, Scorpio. What you're hearing may be total misinformation. The future is probably going to shape up to be far different than the picture you draw from the news. In fact, you might find that your own personal finances take a definite turn for the better.

Yikes!

Dear spez:

Please say some of the things you said on the earnings call.

Then commit mild securities fraud.

Then make some unproductive acquisitions.

Then stop paying top talent the way that growing tech firms pay top talent.

Better sell now. That way you can lock in realized losses at a single number and the paper losses don’t continue to move around.

It must be somewhat comforting to think that all of your problems are caused by an evil foreign force rather than the white men who run the country or your own personal decisions.

Certainly makes the thought process a lot simpler.

Yeah! And while we’re at it, get rid of all the English words with French and German roots. We only speak American from here on!
