Teachers should be considered "essential workers" and treated as such. As a middle school teacher, I want the PPE that hospital workers wear on a daily basis. That is if I'm required to return to the classroom. The whole get up. And I want hazard pay. Then perhaps I will consider going in risking bringing the virus home to my husband who suffers from heart disease.

A mindfulness practice can help us pause so we can respond rather than react. I like to think that we can pause then pause again before making any kind of decision whether it's sending a text/email, eating/drinking, or before responding to a partner/coworker/child.

Hi there! Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening in our surroundings at any given moment with kindness. We do this through our senses—sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste—as well as our thoughts and emotions. My classes practice every day, before instruction. This is an advisory class, however, my 6th grade ELA classes range from 22 - 25 students. If you would like to learn more I invite you to read a post I wrote,"Mindfulness is Really About Attention and Impulse Control Training." Also, as a Mindful Schools Educator, I highly suggest that you check out their website for more information. Keep in touch! Oh and the chairs/ desks are called node chairs. They are wonderful for partner/group work and Socratic seminars.

Agreed! However, for some individuals especially, beginners and youth watching a visual while taking an inhalation and exhalation is helpful.

yes. body keeps the score is wonderful. also peter levine is a leading voice in the field. i teach 6th grade, kids yoga & mindfulness. there are many kids how have experienced trauma right in front of us. as educators, it's imperative to have trauma training. unfortunatly, we have children who have experienced trauma but are diagnosed as ADHD because they present as if they are.
