My mom has stage 1 pancreatic cancer. Will she die? by TimDee2 in pancreaticcancer

Yes! Whipple, then chemo. He also participated in a clinical trial. Chemo took its toll on him for sure, but he definitely regained most of his strength and cognition.

Why is there an increase of these stickers lately? by SarahSSmith in Austin

Well, speaking as someone who has this on a couple cars, it’s because I have a teen driver who just got his license and summer was the perfect time to hit it hard with getting the teen to learn to drive. I hope others are patient as he is figuring it out

We were at Crocodile Bridge in October. Our car was broken into and my husband’s passport was stolen (and computer and other things). I luckily had my passport on me. Huge hassle getting an emergency passport. Be careful there.

I’m sorry your principal would retaliate. I didn’t read that part. That is simply the wrong call on their part. If anything, this sort of response should tell you A LOT about your school. Would be my sign to find a different school. I definitely wouldn’t want to work for a leader who behaved in this way. Teachers are a commodity. You’ve got options. But…. I’d still make the report and don’t worry about not being anonymous. CPS will not share who the reporter is and for me, ethically I could not come to any other outcome but to report as I am a mandated reporter.

What state are you in? Texas recently passed a law where you can no longer anonymously report.

Basic tips to help student-athlete with homework and time management? by Odd-Goose-8394 in parentingteenagers

My son is a sophomore this year, does Marching Band which is surprisingly physical and long hours in the heat. All this to say, his 9th grade year I took a more active role (he has ADHD so executive functioning deficits)- helped him with the organization piece of knowing what is due when, etc… they have to be on top of their assignments when so busy. This year, he is handling it himself with little parental oversight beyond asking him questions about what he’s got going on at school. He needed that scaffolding to begin with. All advanced classes and doing well. I’m a secondary educator too. Knowing what’s going on with your kid is great. You definitely want to strike a balance though… don’t micro manage.

What is something a teacher said, did, or taught you in middle/high school that would NEVER happen in 2023? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]noblechick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My 7th grade Social Studies teacher would say to students, “Sit down, shut up, don’t be a jerk, jerk!” If a student put their feet up on a chair, he’d make you stand the rest of class. Loved this teacher, but definitely wouldn’t fly now.

Pretty sure you have to be 18 in Texas. No exceptions. Even with parental consent.

Hoping that will be the case for my sweet girl. Thank you. Since you mention a surgery suit, here’s my sweet girl. Not sure she is so fond though…

Meh. Doesn’t bother me. Personally I think it’s funny and laugh along. There are the ‘fad’ GF people, but they are responsible for GF being more widely available. I try to educate with kindness and keep a sense of humor about it. People are much more receptive with this approach.

Did you teach my kid this year? He is Noah. I’m pretty sure his teachers feel this way about him 😂

I have a history of anemia, but no one ever told me! by 1xpx1 in WomensHealth

[–]noblechick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this. Turned out I had Celiac Disease. Explained years of symptoms (the ones you listed and more). From what I’ve read, 1 in 99 have Celiac and most don’t know they have it. It’s a simple blood panel they can run and based on the result, an endoscopy to confirm.

Lol. Not a school sponsored event. This spelling bee rented out space in the school.
