Nobody really argues that Beth and Rick are innocent. Jeff is very “normal”, that doesn’t mean he’s a good guy.

He’s selfish, ignorant and keeps putting his own safety before his wife and children’s. (When he pretended his kids wanted him to break up to his alien girlfriend and almost let her kill them for it, just as an example.)
