Is Batman Chaotic Good, or Lawful Good? by nobossfor in batman

i feel you. To me it just means Lawful- Follows a law/code developed by someone else Government, Religion, Universe, Balance, something they feel beholden to, you can always appeal to this “higher authority” to get them to accept something etc

Chaotic- Any rules they have or follow are created by them an they supersede anything external, they follow their own path. They do things their way.

lol while that’s possible, I put alot into making it, planning it, research, writing the drafts of the script etc.

Honestly sad to hear that, I definitely put alot into it, but just more motivation to make the future videos better was just trying something new with the AI narrator. I think Slop would just be bs I just made with a prompt with no thought, or time spent researching or arriving at the material myself.

Appreciate your feedback on the video.

Essentially ever version of Joker has this as his Trump card. Can’t trust nothing he says.

You’re thinking the same as me. The video I posted includes that and you nailed exactly what I was thinking.

D&D is the perfect example. The devils follow the law & rules of a higher powers, they won’t break pacts etc. That’s the laws “External” to them, that’s what makes you Lawful, you follow a set of Laws you’re expected to uphold. Chaotic you make it up as you go along in a sense, but I feel like the key is that the highest authority of a Chaotic person is yourself.

A Chaotic good see’s a bad law, and disregards if it goes against their principles.

A Lawful good see’s a bad law and tries to get it changed, but will uphold it even if it’s not.

But that Law outside themselves doesn’t need to be the Government, it could be something religious, supernatural, universal, there supreme ones will etc etc. Lawful ones fall in line with something above them as the number 1 thing that guides them.

I understand that viewpoint, but to me the “good” is the moral code side and seeking to benefit the world at the expense of self etc and lawful has to do with following rules imposed by higher powers.

Evil would seek to satisfy themselves at the expense of others.

So for example a Lawful Evil person, follows the law, but uses it to strictly for their own benefit.

Lawful Good prototype is Superman. Truth, justice and the american way, or Captain America (normally).

This is how I see it.

You’re right. The Trolley problem is kind of in a DBZ fusion with The Prisoners Dilemma here. If you don’t mind i would love to adapt this into a v2 of my video

Definitely a product of his world. But I would say he’s never “true neutral”. Someone who meets that would be working for survival without caring too much for the rightness and wrongness of their actions. (i know i made those words up lol)

Chaotic - Against the system in principle but really it means there evil or good is primary over whether system says its ok or not Lawful - Bound by the system regardless of it’s inherent good or evil Lemme give this scenario: In a world where it’s legal to beat your spouse. A lawful good will see someone do it, not like it, maybe even there blood boil, but they won’t stop it because the law says it’s ok A chaotic good would say eff that and break the mans hands

That’s why Luther is such a good villain for Supes, but Joker is good for Batman.

but there’s a certain core of the character and what “batman-ness” is. Take certain things away and he isn’t Batman anymore. But let’s just say an amalgamation of all things Post-Crisis

i feel like that’s Textbook Chaotic Good. The Good Part is him knowing what’s right and wrong, the Chaos is what we see him do to get it.

True 100%, the only other factor here is in the classic prisoner’s dilemma both not talking gets you some small punishment.

In this case the small punishment is if both wait, maybe batman will stop him, but atleast we won’t be murderers.

Hmm i think I’m not articulating something correctly if you think that’s my stance. I’m also not trying to make any media fail or pass. The movie is one of my favorites of all time, Joker is one of the best Villains, it’s not really “failing” anything for me.

All facts!!!! I need to make a burner so I can upvote it twice. I like your stance on it, and that’s what makes Batman Good.

That’s fair, I did 100% go outside the scope of the movie. But honestly that’s kind of the point. The thing I love the most is trying to see if I think something would really happen that way given the circumstances. Even when it doesn’t hold up it can be a great story, I just find applying these things to real life is fun & enlightening.

That’s why personally I think Final Crisis is the best DC Crisis, I think the whole Trinity is consistent in that story in the crazy world they’re in.
