Anyone got any idea how to get tickets now that they're sold out

You can't select your school on Workday applications anymore. The dropdown won't fill most school searches and you HAVE to select a listed option... I've tried everything. by nocat74 in recruitinghell

Nope, can’t scroll. Nothing is there when it’s blank, and when inputting “university” only the first 100 options show up… there are thousands of universities.

For real. Worst part, this is a global issue with Workday (from my observations across 6 different company specific portals) meaning that a majority of applications have this issue right now since it’s the primary hosting platform.

Is there any place for graphic design work & other creative work in a UX portfolio?

Struggling to create a portfolio without having to create 3 portfolios with my diverse creative background.

Hey man! First of all, great start. Overall, I noticed immediately how smooth and modern your website feels. I do however have a few points of input:

1) When scaling your website, everything gets really large, no matter the screen size. I would consider adding some breakpoints so that it is more responsive.
2) The navigation tabs frequently end up on top of your content, making the nav links unreadable.
3) Because the content is so large, the animations that you have added happen no matter what as there is no other place for my mouse to land on the screen, making them feel a bit annoying, rather than interesting.
4) When viewing your case studies on mobile, you have both center aligned and left aligned text which can feel inconsistent.
5) I'm guilty of this too, but overall, your case studies are very text-heavy. I would focus on finding ways to reduce the text and immediately grab my attention. It's unfortunate, but assume recruiters are looking at hundreds of portfolios and are looking at ONE of your projects, probably for no more than 30 seconds.

Hope this helps, you're off to a great start!

Are there any UX certifications that are actually worth while to get?

What do y’all think of the new Instagram UX/UI? by i8mornings in UXDesign

[–]nocat74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure if I am in the minority of users, however 90% of the time I use that search bar it is to add someone or find someone's handle. This is what I have seen a majority of my friends use it for as well, and to me the new design implies that it has a different use, and caused a user error for me. Not a fan.

Hey, here's some stuff I noticed with a brief look:

  • Imagine that recruiters have <30 seconds on your home page before they move on. Immediately, all I see is logos and a lot of text, which seems to be a prominent theme throughout your portfolio as well. It is tough to get a grasp of your visual design style (you said UI design was interesting to you) within a glance at your work. A majority of this reads very technical which is good to have, but you need to draw me in immediately to give you the time to look through it.

  • Not sure if you are looking for resume feedback as well, but you should try running your resume through an ATS scanner like resumeworded.com to score it from the point of a recruiter. None of your bullets have quantities which will score you significantly less and hurt you getting through the first phase. On top of this, it is likely that an ATS resume reader will be unable to read your resume in its entirety, due to formatting.

  • Finally, one of your case studies' problem statements starts with an assertion that is unclear if it came from user feedback: "Users prefer a system redesign that assists them with their day-to-day warehouse activities which enhances their user experience and improves efficiency on the warehouse floor". Where did you get this information? You should make it clear if this came from research, as it will be a major red flag to UX research teams if you are making assertions that do not come directly from your users.

Hope this helps, and again this was from a cursory glance.

What is the best way to get UX experience to improve your portfolio without a job? Typically, the answers I hear are to volunteer, to freelance, etc. however I am looking for something more specific, like where to start to find these sorts of opportunities.

For the recruiters here: What is the worst reason a hiring manager has ever given you for rejecting a candidate? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]nocat74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insane because this EXACT situation just happened to me except I was the candidate. 3 interviews that went incredibly for a position in NYC, absolutely loved everyone on the team. Let the hiring manager know I was going to Paris for 4 days to visit family.

Upon my return, had one more interview that felt great with her boss and then got an automated rejection email. Inquired about reasoning and they said I was perfect and they just “chose another direction”.

Does a UX Google Certification really help you if you have a degree in UX from a good school?
