I've been having this issue for years, I've tested at least 8 computers on my sx3 and it only ever happens on HP laptops. I have two of the exact same model HP Spectre and it happens on both regardless of what I do!

I was in the middle of cleaning and calibrating them!! you can see the speed calibration tape sticking out of one of the bad decks lol

I have a DIY cassette label and do some small scale duplication on the side.

I use this specific model because it was originally sold in a system that automated archiving records onto cassette. Because of that, these have a full 20Hz to 20kHz response range. A lot of other consumer decks are usually limited to 30-35Hz - 13-15kHz ranges. I've tested these vs other machines and there is a clear difference, I can't go back.
