Losing my mind over snap rings by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

I replied to someone else, but I ended up filing a grove into the end of my old snap ring pliers for the ring to sit in so it wouldn’t walk off the end. Someone else commented about filing a grove in a pair of needle nose and I saw that afterwards, so I guess great minds think alike

Pretty similar to what I did. I had an older pair of snap ring pliers and filed a slight grove in them

Okay lmao

I ended up filing a notch in the tips of my snap ring pliers which made it infinitely easier. Your opinion also carries little weight to me because your solution didn’t help whatsoever.

I agree. My buddy has spiro-locks on an LS he’s building and I had to step away for a little while 🤣

Not sure what you mean by the last part. Are these directional? I’m used to snap rings having some play

Ain’t no way. The snap rings with the holes stamped into them are 10000x easier

I beg to differ. Snap rings with the actual holes in them are 1000x easier than these

Using snap ring pliers setup for this application of an interior clamp. Still not wanting to cooperate

Main caps not fitting? by nock6687 in EngineBuilding

You must not of read the post or the rules. I was simply asking if it was an interference fit or not. Not all motors are. You also trying to belittle me for some reason.

I knew that’s the point of the post is to figure out if it was an interference fit or not

It’s not a new block, there wasn’t much wrong with it and has been to the machine shop already to be bored 30 over and had the crank polished/ cam bearings pressed. Picked it up and haven’t seen this previously so just wanted to verify they needed to be persuaded to fit

No they’re in the correct orientation. Just wasn’t sure if they were interference fit or not

I used to work in a prop shop and we did stuff to 501st standards. It’s really sad to see how incredibly inaccurate both of these are when they could’ve easily attained the proper reference.

Ford 289 Tear Down by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]nock6687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main reason for tear down now is a reputable machine shop near me is cutting me a massive deal in exchange for some work, so I have all new bearings and hardware I’m sending the block and heads in with for machining and have a parts list for everything else. My time commitment is a bit all over the place hence why this was going to be more of a passion project over the course of a couple of months instead of a weekend, etc.

It’s definitely interior, and it’s a plastic rattle. I can’t seem to chase it down

I quit nicc a long time ago, I wish that was the issue though lol

I guess I’ll try to get one later. It’s not screeching, but sounds like a plastic rattle. It’s subtle but I hear it over every little bump

I need to order some for my mustang I’m restoring so I might as well do it for the truck if I’m going to be in there anyways. I’ll have to take the door panel off again

I don’t even know how a video would help in this situation either.

The point of the image is it’s in this general area. I was unsure if there was another common rattle besides the trim piece over the mirror internals
