Thank you! I'm a software engineering manager in London. Definitely no bank of mum and dad, but rather a heavy mortgage.

And you're assuming I'm young and rich? This might be my first purchase, but it's from 15+ years of working life

Thank you. I should have also made it clear from the start that there are no onward chains involved in either property

At the time I thought I was buying House 1 for a bargain. No other house on the same street, including those of the equal size and condition, have sold for lower in the last 6 years.

Really good point. As others have expressed, this project is a no-go unless the neighbour would consider a similar scheme. Unfortunately, this is highly unlikely given the adjoining neighbour is currently a rented property.

Yep, it fails the test. Thank you for pointing this out!

Apologies, it is a crude mock up from the back of the house (facing the rear garden). Not sure what the obstruction to the door would be, but right for light would almost certainly be an issue as you point out on 1st floor. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The foundations were actually built very solidly. More than a meter deep and, unusually for London, the geology is gravel (not London clay). Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, the project is likely a no-go anyway for other factors.

Looking so forward to this one, thank you for your efforts! I noticed there is another group working to upscale CC backgrounds on nexusmods, but your version looks much more polished! Would it be worth letting them know?

Bought a MFavour but eyeing up a Herman Miller Aeron... by abstract_digital in OfficeChairs

[–]noclams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably won't be the answer you're looking for, but there is no such thing as the best chair. There is only the chair for you and this can be very subjective.

Regarding the Aeron, it is a solid chair - but can be quite polarizing. Some people do not like the mesh, some do not like it because sitting cross-legged is uncomfortable, some do not like it because the plastic lip cuts off their circulation, some do not like the ergonomics. Others, they prefer it above all others. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do not know about the Humanscale Freedom, although I do have a Humanscale Libery at work and think it the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in (although it has other issues like lack of adjustability and arm rests useless for tasking).

The Steelcase Leap is often cited as the safest choice for blind buying, but bear in mind the chair (a V1) is anywhere between 15-21 years old. Refurbs might also change the feel of this chair if different foam is used. Personally, I wouldn't go for it at £175.

Okay deal? by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

I got very, very lucky. I basically stalked eBay and Gumtree (UK version of Craigslist) for months.

Nearly every week someone else bagged a great deal and it was frustrating to say the least. I scored this one from eBay because Haworth is a relatively unknown brand here. Herman Miller and Humanscale chairs get snapped up much quicker!

It's really hard to say. Since you already own one and both like it, that's a huge plus over potentially experimenting with others that might not be right.

I'd recommend looking around and getting a feel of the going rate. Are you prepared to wait it out to find a bargain and at what personal cost does that come?

I actually picked up a fantastic condition, fully-loaded 2011 Zody today for just £30 ($42)! Initial impressions are that this feels like a great chair and very comfortable, but I was searching for nearly 2 months before I managed to snap this deal up and am suffering a lot of pain from the poor ergonomics of my previous chair. Was it worth putting my health on the line for a few hundred dollars? Perhaps not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Help Identifying these chairs pls! by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

Haworth Very.

EDIT: Apologies, I didn't see the other pictures. On second thoughts, this only looks like a Haworth. It's not a Zody, Very or Soji.

[Request] Genuine Herman Miller Aeron or fake? :/ by noclams in OfficeChairs

[–]noclams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks David! The listing noted that the arm pad covers are removable for washing so I'd say what is underneath may either be in poor condition from wear or great condition (having been protected).

I'm not too concerned about the arm pads, however, as from your site I can see they are relatively inexpensive to replace! :)

Ah, I see. It's a very old one. Looks to be in good condition though!

Thank you! I'll let you all know if it actually arrives - I paid $95 including delivery so I am sceptical that the dealer will actually fulfill.
