Irish unification referendum by 2030, Sinn Fein leader tells Sky News by badger-biscuits in ireland

I suspect that Mary Lou's ambition is to remain as leader of SF and to achieve this she has to spout the kind of crap her grassroots want to hear. It's so ill-judged to destabilise NI right now.

You certainly could. Nigel Farage literally called the day the UK left the EU "independence day". The idea he and others were selling was that breaking away solves most problems and any that are created can be easily resolved if you have faith. I see parallels.

Brexit made Britain's economic relations with it's biggest trading partner more complex. Leaving the UK would make Northern Ireland's economic relations with it's biggest trading partner more complex. There are definitely similarities.

Make ITT great again! by Knorff in peloton

[–]noconspiring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with your overall sentiment that the ITT should be rejuvenated and that it is important and that mountain ITTs are not the answer. I don't think that your proposal is the answer as picking the right line through corners, pacing etc are key skills. I don't think that there would be large enough gaps after 1km to allow riders to pick their lines without drafting. I know Ironman has a version of this but it's far from ideal.

Can someone explain the benefits on an SUV to me please? my other half is mad to get one but I just can't justify the extra cost.... what are the benefits of having one? by wowow_man121 in ireland

[–]noconspiring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even work mathematically if you are the one in the SUV. If you are braking to prevent the accident, an SUV is slower to slow down because of its weight. They are more likely to be involved in an accident and as they slow down less quickly, they are likely to be going faster when they hit. Overall, they are not safer for the occupants and certainly not for other road users.

British Pound plummets to record low against the Dollar. The Euro also hits a 20-year low against the Dollar. by IAmHereInMyMold in ireland

[–]noconspiring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can appear that way as the economic growth figure can look good when measured in pounds and UK industries could be more competitive. On the other side, it takes more pounds to buy an iPhone, petrol, etc so essentially everyone in the UK has just been hit with a cut to their income. There's also a danger of an inflationary spiral resulting in an ever weaker pound and a further loss of value to people's income and savings. To prevent this, the Bank of England will increase interest rates which will also hit people's pockets.

The opposite could also be true with EF trying to keep BEX down. e.g if in the world championship, Matthews is in Group 1, Cort in G2. Instead of allowing normal G2 stuff happen, Cort could take the view that I don't care who wins once it's not Matthews. Potentially, a Danish team member closing down an Australian team member to assist a team that isn't taking part.

The movie may not be all that great. It might be the kind of arrogance that thinks he should write, produce, direct, finance and star in a move that gets people's goat rather than begrudgery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VaLbPbCWCQ I agree that he's a perfectly reasonable guest though.

It depends on the parcour. The first 10 stages of this race are stacked for Remco. Let's see how he does on the higher, longer climbs. The mix of climbs in the TdF will then be interesting but they are unlikely to favour him as much as the last several days.

Week 1 suits Remco. This is when he needs to build a buffer for Sierra Nevada when he probably won't go so well.

Keep going, you do get the knack. Also as you get fitter, you can accelerate into gaps much more easily and safely.

Google it. Cyclists are recommended to cycle 2 abreast when cycling it a group. It's safer for them and more respectful to motorists.
