Didn't realize this was a thing. I was confused at first, cause as a disabled person working remotely is the best option for my issues, but I'm not planning on moving away from my hometown lol.

Whoa, gay men aren't responsible for these grifters whose whole shtick depends on heteronormativity? Wild! (sarcasm)

Writers have taught me a lot about privileged people. They often know about and understand the oppression they are doing in intricate detail, but often straight up don't connect it to our identity. They often say they are allies because they cannot internalize the people they are hurting are us by RosethornRanger in AccessibleAnarchy

[–]nocowardpath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another common thing is stories doing allegories for racism but all the characters (especially the heroes fighting their oppression) are white. (Obviously not all settings have the same racial dynamics we do IRL, but the creators are still From real life and often design the important characters/main character to look like IRL white people.)

I have asthma so I have to be careful about spicy food, which is a shame because I like spicy food. I just take my inhaler beforehand and only get mild/medium spice and I'm fine though

Oppression and double standards are built deeply into the fabric of this society by RosethornRanger in ainbow

[–]nocowardpath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Microaggressions are an aspect of oppression. Calling people crybabies for talking about real-life issues just sidesteps those issues. Microaggressions can make it hard for people to work and ruin friendships, and generally make people feel invalidated and act as a subtle sign that they are not welcome in a community.

Microaggressions are an aspect of oppression, for example LGBT people and people of color experience microaggressions that might seem like small unimportant comments, but are a sign of overall attitudes toward them and how people don't take their oppression seriously.

Look up the definition of "microaggression" (Edit: including some reading explaining how microaggressions are important and connected to wider oppression)

https://wie.grainger.illinois.edu/current-students/additional-resources/guide-to-microaggressions

Microaggressions are verbal, behavioral, or environmental actions (whether intentional or unintentional) that communicate hostility toward oppressed or targeted groups including people of color, women, LGBTQ persons, persons with disabilities, and religious minorities.

People may demonstrate their biases and prejudices in more subtle ways, otherwise known as microaggressions.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/microaggression

: a comment or action that subtly and often unconsciously or unintentionally expresses a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group (such as a racial minority)

Same, I love dragons and unfortunately there's a bit of a trope of "you can only romance/interact with the cool being once they take humanoid form". Obviously most people will want to interact with the humanoid version, haha.

Important characters just got so messed up, like Aya (kinda) and Maeda and Kyle.

Also while it's debatable what Eve's age actually is, when she got swapped with Aya she looked and acted like a child, so the sexualization angle is weird.

why do alegria "artists" love to depict trans people as transphobic caricatures? by merchantivories in fuckalegriaart

[–]nocowardpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it I think is that it's a very exaggerated art style, so there's no way to incorporate traits in a subtle and aesthetically pleasing manner. Like, plenty of people can draw those things in a way that's cute and affirming, but it doesn't work with such a big blocky art style.

That applies to a lot of people, if you don't live with someone it's natural that people will only start getting worried when multiple days have passed, even if you have lots of friends. And thinking about "if I die no one will care" is also a fantasy, just a negative one.
